RUMOR: The First Test Screenings For AQUAMAN May Not Have Gone Particularly Well

Warner Bros. has started promoting Shazam! before Aquaman and now a new report claims that there may be some issues with the DC Comics adaptation following the first wave of test screenings recently...

Earlier this week, fans were surprised when Warner Bros. announced a Shazam Q&A and unveiled the movie's official logo despite the fact Aquaman is supposed to be released long before it this December. Unfortunately, it's now being reported that the upcoming DC Comics adaptation hasn't been faring particularly well during test screenings (luckily, it doesn't sound like the movie is beyond repair).

There aren't any specifics here but it is noted that some people have actually had good things to say about Aquaman so it's far from doomed and there's plenty of time to go until it's released, giving Warner Bros. ample opportunities to fix any issues which may have arisen from those screenings.

It's also mentioned in the video below that Aquaman was developed at a time when different people were in charge of the DC Films division, hence why the marketing and promotional campaign is playing out in a certain way. The question is, will Aquaman be more like Wonder Woman than Justice League and is James Wan going to be enough to keep the project on the right path? It seems time will tell...

I never take rumors like this to heart because...they're rumours. Just like how Fan4stic was apparently one of the best of all time, but we all know that story. Wait till the movie comes out, or until real reviews hit.

@KermitTheFraud - I will wait until I see it. You're right, of course, judging before proof seems rather pointless. The first two posts on this thread rather sum things up succintly.

@KermitTheFraud - Yeah. Even if it was true it's not worth talking about. Test screenings are notoriously flawed. Just look at what happened to I Am Legend.

@KermitTheFraud - Nobody EVER said Fant4stic was apparently the best of all time.

@Ragnarocknroll - Early test screenings and Twitter reactions claimed it was incredible. I totally remember it.

@KermitTheFraud - Yeah of course they are just rumors, but given they are related to a studio that, except for Wonder Woman, cannot make a good movie to save their life, people tend to get a bit suspicious. DC has a long way to go until they can be trusted.

@KermitTheFraud - 100% agreed. In addition, it's still months away. IW, Deadpool 2 and Antman & Wasp will hold me until then.

I heard the romantic elements fall flat as the star wars prequels, the backgrounds in scenes look way too much like video games, and a lot of the cast fail to have the range to carry some of the emotional beats.

But the Sharks and Patrick Wilson are standouts, so we will see how it looks once the trailer drops in a few months, all you can do.

First we hear Aquaman had great test screenings, then we hear Deadpool 2 had tested poorly. Days later, we hear the opposite of both. Can we stop with the test screening rumors, please?

@scarecrow67 - That's why I stopped listening to anything that is said about any movie. Everyone needs to make their picture of a movie.

Never forget. The “standing ovation” for BvS. We all know how the movie turned out.

@JohnGrayson -
When people get to see a movie before everyone else it leaves them elated and hyped because they think they are special. It's one of the reasons that early reviews do not carry much weight either if they are positive.

It's easier to be positive towards a movie you got to see before everyone else, than it is to be negative, especially with review embargoes and the potential to ruin your chance of being able to see the next film early.

Weren't there already earlier test screenings with mostly positive reactions?

@Odin - Yeah, from Jeremy Conrad, and he's about as reliable as...well....nothing. He's not reliable.

That said, I'm not really inclined to believe either side right now. It's unfortunate to say, but people have agendas and just make shit up on the internet to justify either side of their respective biases.

It wouldn’t be a DCEU project if we didn’t hear rumors of it needing a massive overhaul after it had already been filmed.
