Kevin Feige in a recent interview revealed that when he first heard about "the robot" Ultron being the main villain in the Avengers sequel, he worried. "There's a lot of angst in terms of making a robot interesting." He then says once he knew that Joss Whedon and James Spader was involved, most of his worrying was put to an end. "But we have Joss Whedon writing his dialogue and James Spader performing it, and most of the angst goes away." Prior to the AOU announcement, if you were a fan of Ultron in the comics, you'd know that he was going to 'tear the Avengers apart' in the film. For those who wasn't, the first pieces of footage revealed certainly convinced you (well... it should of).
Joss Whedon then praises James Spader and says once more why he's the perfect man for the role. "He has that voice, that very terrifying 'I own everything' maleficent evil voice and then suddenly get very peevish about something." He then tells how Spader can change tones very quickly. "He can go from very intense to very comedic, and get there on a dime beautifully." There were already hints at Ultron having a brief comedic aspect about him in the film, but according to the trailers we've seen so far, it just seems as though his primary focus is…our extinction!
