THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON - Why Saoirse Ronan Not Playing Scarlet Witch Is A Good Thing

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON - Why Saoirse Ronan Not Playing Scarlet Witch Is A Good Thing

I have five good reasons why this non casting decision is the best thing to happen to comics to film since Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker.

Editorial Opinion

Saoirse Ronan. She is like Maggie Gyllenhaal in the sense they are the definition of what a bad actress is. I am not going to go into the untalented Gyllenhaal sibling as I am about to go into why Ronan as Scarlet Witch would have been the worst casting decision in comicbook films since Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. There have obviously been bad casting decisions in these types of films since but nothing as atrocious as Schwarzenegger and Thurman (bad actors by the way) and Ronan would have joined those two. These will not be just five reasons but also five exhibits of not just her inability as an actor but why she lacks certain necessities needed to play Scarlet Witch.

Reason 5/Exhibit 1: Lacks the ability to convince

This clip is from the film Hanna. She lacks in this clip as with her other roles (the host is too easy to pick apart) the ability to convince. As an audience member, I am not convinced that she is not only this girl. I am not convinced she is feeling any emotion or means anything she says. In the film, I don't believe she could kill anyone. Her behavior in this clip is suppose to be what exactly? That is why reason number four is this....

Reason 4/Exhibit 2: Lacks the depth

This is suppose to be a scene of emotion and yet, she doesn't show the depth one would need for this film. Don't get me wrong, every film she has been in has been terrible as well except for Atonement cause I have yet to see it. But, an actor should still bring depth and the ability to convince the audience that not only are they this character but they are feeling these feelings. Saoirse Ronan can't do any of this. These are requirements to be able to pull of a comicbook role and a character like Scarlet Witch. Especially with Scarlet Witches later relationships (romantic and non-romantic) with other characters and maybe an emotional beat or two with her brother, Quicksilver.

Reason 3/Exhibit 3: She can't do action

I am sorry but she just can't do action oriented movies and characters. Did anyone actually believe she could beat up grown men? I don't. She was very slow and it was almost like the guy was letting her kick his ass. I don't want his character to make it look easy. I know she is pretty much a trained killer but even a trained killer would have a challenge. I don't lack an imagination but things like this (and characters like MODOK) is where it gets to unbelievable for me. I want to be able to be convinced she can kick ass so I can buy her playing Scarlet Witch. But, Scarlet Witch is also very powerful and in early stages with her powers, they fluctuate on her at times which can makes things a bit conflicting which is why....

Reason 2/Exhibit 4: She can't play characters with any personal conflict with themselves

Cause of Scarlet Witches conflictions with her powers, Saoirse Ronan would not be able to play themselves. She is a flat out, dry as hell actress. So dry, it makes Kirsten Stewart seem like an academy worthy actress. While in The Host, it's more of an internal conflict, she is still at conflict with herself and quite frankly, it goes back to her inability to convince the audience. Reasons 5-2 are big things you need to play Scarlet Witch cause of who the character is and her powers, especially a younger version of the character. Ronan can't pull of conflicted characters.

Reason 1/Exhibit 5: Wanda is a curious and smart character

I give Ronan props for Hanna and the upcoming Violet and Daisy for picking smart characters to play. Problem is in this case, she plays curiosity like she isn't even curious. She also comes off like a robot. This is assuming that Scarlet Witch will be seen at times throughout The Avengers: Age of Ultron as a young teenager or something, she gets very curious and becomes very bright. I know the characters are smart and Daisy does come off curious. As I said, she plays curious like she isn't even curious not to mention that I know the characters are smart, I just don't see it.

Honestly, I could've made this one great big reason why she is a bad actress and unfit for Scarlet Witch but, I think they all tie things together pretty nicely. I don't expect many of you to agree with me. Just be civil about it, read with an open mind and try to see where I am coming from is all I ask.

This sound like nothing more than a fanboy who is talking shit about an actress because she wasn't his pick.

@JatevinM: I've never liked her long before she was ever rumored for Scarlet Witch. I am not a fanboy talking shit. I probably should've made it one great big reason but hey, how you interpret it is how you do. I feel these reasons are valid.

@Reasonnnn: One of the best? God... thank you it's just an opinion.

@EdgyOutsider She's 19 now, but she was great in Atonement, The Way Back, Hanna and I'm sure she's going to kill it in How I Live Now, Gosling's How to Catch a Monster and Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel. Pretty solid auteur-filled filmography for a former child actress.

@Reasonnnn: She was horrid in Hanna. I have been thinking about giving Atonement a chance but for the rest of the cast. If she would have been cast in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I would have had to skip out on it. I don't believe it is the best written editorial but, I felt like I should make an editorial of some kind of why I feel she is a terrible actress why her not being cast is the best thing since Ledger as The Joker. I have seen better child stars and I have seen worse. Does not change the fact I can't stand her. She bugged me in The Lovely Bones, Hanna was just horrid and The Host nailed it on the coffin. I don't have confidence in any of her future projects but, despite my dislike for her, I do wish her a successful career though.

relax buddy you're getting to worked out about her not being in it. If Olsen passes on it and we don't even know if they really went to her next are you going to make an editorial.

Get a life and stop hating you [frick]ing loser. She's an actress and you're just some guy or girl complaining about her. Clean up the envy and sorry if I was a little mean. Forgive me.

Two words spring to mind about this article.

Spiteful and hateful.

Byzantium alone garners respect - but add to that the Lovely Bones and Atonement - she is a class act.

Joss Whedon: has worked with female actors for years, knows their strengths/weaknesses, writes a role for a girl with her in mind.

Nick Salinski: has worked with nothing. Knows nothing. Is unworthy of listening.

She was great in Lovely Bones, You weren't. Better to use your time in better ways, sunshine.

I bet Saoirse's writing an editorial right now on why you're such a troll with no real joy in your life.

Truthfully - this coming from a life-long comic book dork...

There is no such thing as a Scarlet Witch fan. She's not the Marvel equivalent of Zatanna, nor is she their answer to Raven - apart from being around longer, the big thing is that she's not a very likeable character.

In context, you have Janet who's all over the place flirting with every guy she can, Hank who's fed up with Janet and not doing a good job of hiding it, Steve who's a soldier everyone instantly respects and listens to, Tony who's this over-confident nothing's ever-good-enough douchebag, Thor who's talk is as big as his walk, Clint who tries to mask his insecurities by overcompensating with his skills, and Pietro - who is this always angry untrusting over-protective jerk...

...and then you have Wanda. She's pretty much a go-between with her brother, is extremely reserved, yet wears her heart out on her sleeve. There's just not a whole lot of personality there.

---

Anyways, Nick, you might wanna take another look at your work here. Despite your response, it is quite clear that you're just being petty because you don't want her as Scarlet Witch. Or Wasp. Or Betty. Or Liz. Or Felicia. Or Bethany. Or Kitty. Or Rogue. Or Illyana. Or Daisy. Or Glorianna.

See where I'm going with this?

I could make an editorial about why Kristen Stewart doesn't need to be involved with any CBM, but I won't. Ask me why.

BTW, if you think Uma's a bad actress, then you really don't know shit, I'm sorry.

Yeah, gonna have to agree with all those saying that writing an editorial to bash one particular actress is pretty low. There are actors I don't like (Jim Carrey & Will Ferrell to name 2), but I don't devote entire articles to trashing them, especially about news that they WON'T be in a movie. I'm honest about not liking them, but I don't go way out of my way to convince others not to like them. And I'll even admit that Ferrell was actually pretty good in Elf.

Seriously, get a life.

Sure, why not cast her? In fact, let's replace Scarlett Johansson with Kristen Stewart since we're pulling people from shitty movies that Stephanie Meyer wrote.... not. Keep her away from this character. Pick someone way more experienced.

Hey! I heard Adam Sandler didn't get cast as Rocket Raccoon, hows a bout you write an article on that. I didn't get cast as Quicksilver, i might write an article why that was a good idea. I think i will write articles about things that didn't happen, so much more interesting than things that did.
