UPDATE: James Spader And Scarlett Johansson Talk Prepping For THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Since James Spader was announced last month to be joining the cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, we've heard from director Joss Whedon and some supporting cast members on the unexpected casting. But speaking with Inquirer Entertainment about his new NBC series The Blacklist, Spader himself discussed how he's started prepping the titular villainous role. “I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it,” he says. “And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I’m gonna fit in this Ultron character!” Not much, but it does offer a little insight as to how Marvel and Joss Whedon plan to "humanize" Ultron in the film.

UPDATE: Spader offered The Independent a little more about joining The Avengers sequel. Admitting that he's not a planner and likes to try something different, to just see what happens, James Spader explains why he agreed to play Ultron: “I think it'll be a lot of fun and it's incredibly nostalgic for me. When I was a kid my best friend had trunks of comics and I didn't have any so I used to love going for sleepovers at his house. Also I have three sons and two of them have a great interest in comics so they're excited I'm playing the role.” What do you think?

Meanwhile, Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson, who has a “huge part” in the Age of Ultron, also recently discussed prepping the Marvel sequel. “We’ll be shooting that in January,” she told Interview mag. “I think we’re taking it to the streets this time, I think we’re going overseas.”

So far starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in negotiations to join, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is slated to begin production in March 2014 and release on May 1, 2015.

@ Blackjack

Has "The Blacklist" aired yet? If so, gotta catch it on Hulu. Spader and Downey in a film together again should be great.

Wow I used to hear him with a french voice over in France, but I heard his real voice in the Blacklist, he has one strong and creepy voice. I understand the choice now.

Spader's voice seems like a good fit for Ultron but god i want Whedon to stop forcing his fake 'strong female' characters on this, i really hope Widow dies.

@Reni

what do you mean "fake" strong female characters?? -_-
Reni
Reni - 9/29/2013, 9:53 AM
@McNyagano

He obviously is trying to make female characters like Black Widow look strong or useful (and i believe he's adding Scarlet Witch in this one) but in my opinion they come off as bland, useless and cheap, and the lines, oh god, those lines. Black Widow made me cringe. I'm not saying he can't write fun characters but when it comes to take someone serious or care for he just falls flat.

Spader is cool. Always respected the guy. And to hear that he is doing more than just the voice is awesome if surprising news.

@ BlackJack10

i definitely believe that we will see an actual robot,the teaser trailer showed that.

if the design of ultron is as good as the iron man armours we should be in for a treat.

maybe even motion capture suit with spader's voice.

@Ranger14 Well i sort of liked Dollhouse. Never cared for Firefly or Buffy. I just can't take Black Widow serious, she is just there (like Hawkeye). I guess because the team needed a female member.

"I just can't take Black Widow serious, she is just there (like Hawkeye)."

Yep because those two served no purpose to the story at all.
JoJo1982

Need a strong female superhero?!

Just put Ms Marvel in it then..... She can keep up with the 4 main big boys.

I always find Black widow uninteresting when you have cap, hulk, iron man, and Thor.
Reni
Reni - 9/29/2013, 10:32 AM
@JoJo1982

Same here. Ms Marvel would be a better fit but finding someone that would fit her is as hard as making Black Widow interesting.

Plz dont turn Ultron humanoid..... That's a big fail!!!

Ultron hates humans, just the thought of seeing them makes him sick. But making look human is pretty stupid for the character
Reni
Reni - 9/29/2013, 10:34 AM
@McNyagano Yeah, they were totally necessary to the story.
TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 9/29/2013, 10:39 AM
Yeah, if Ultron makes himself appear as a human, I could REALLY see that bringing up LMD's and Coulson, which would push the Avengers and SHIELD farther apart. I love it.

Ranger14

I have found Black Widow to be interesting since she was first introduced in IM2. She played an important role in The Avengers and will be playing an important role in CAP 2. Sometimes I think people are watching completely different films than I am. Different strokes. I am happy and that is all that matters to me. :-D
