UPDATE: James Spader And Scarlett Johansson Talk Prepping For THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
James Spader's first time discussing playing the titular villain of Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron dishes on The Blacklist actor's preparation for the role and meeting Joss Whedon. Check it out!
Since James Spader was announced last month to be joining the cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, we've heard from director Joss Whedon and some supporting cast members on the unexpected casting. But speaking with Inquirer Entertainment about his new NBC series The Blacklist, Spader himself discussed how he's started prepping the titular villainous role. “I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it,” he says. “And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I’m gonna fit in this Ultron character!” Not much, but it does offer a little insight as to how Marvel and Joss Whedon plan to "humanize" Ultron in the film.
UPDATE: Spader offered The Independent a little more about joining The Avengers sequel. Admitting that he's not a planner and likes to try something different, to just see what happens, James Spader explains why he agreed to play Ultron: “I think it'll be a lot of fun and it's incredibly nostalgic for me. When I was a kid my best friend had trunks of comics and I didn't have any so I used to love going for sleepovers at his house. Also I have three sons and two of them have a great interest in comics so they're excited I'm playing the role.” What do you think?
Meanwhile, Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson, who has a “huge part” in the Age of Ultron, also recently discussed prepping the Marvel sequel. “We’ll be shooting that in January,” she told Interview mag. “I think we’re taking it to the streets this time, I think we’re going overseas.”
So far starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in negotiations to join, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is slated to begin production in March 2014 and release on May 1, 2015.
