Avengers: Endgame will once again put the spotlight on War Machine, a character who successfully made the leap from the
Iron Man franchise to the one featuring all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The hero is expected to wear a number of armours in
Endgame (
you can take a closer look at one of them by clicking here), but Don Cheadle's Rhodey could have had an even larger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe once upon a time as the actor has now revealed that Marvel Studios was once considering a solo
War Machine movie.
Written by
Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole, it would have explored
"a lot of tension between his job as a military man and his allegiances to the code that he swore an oath to uphold, versus the changing world."
"I think they probably would have run afoul of each other a little bit, but I don’t know if he would have been a straight fugitive, or if he would have become decommissioned. But there was definitely going to be some tension between those two worlds." That certainly would have gone some way in fleshing the character out and it sounds like a great approach overall.
