Gwyneth Paltrow Explains Why She Still Hasn't Watched AVENGERS: ENDGAME

Gwyneth Paltrow played Pepper Potts for the last time(?) in Avengers: Endgame, but the actress has now revealed that she still hasn't watched Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga finale...

Gwyneth Paltrow debuted as Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) love-interest Pepper Potts in the first Iron Man movie, and has since made several notable Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances, ultimately getting the chance to suit-up as Rescue in Avengers: Endgame.

Despite donning armor of her own and getting more screen-time than she had in a lot of her previous MCU appearances, Paltrow has now revealed that she still hasn't watched the movie.

Paltrow was speaking about the directors she's most enjoyed working with during a career retrospective this evening at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, and the subject of her MCU role came up.

“To be honest, I stopped watching them at some point," the Academy Award-winner said of Marvel Studios' output. "I’ve never seen Endgame. I can’t keep track of who’s what. But I probably should at some point.”

As for why she gradually became disillusioned with the MCU, Paltrow feels that the franchise hasn't been the same for a while, suggesting that the movies gradually lost their "independent" feel as they went on.

“The first film we did was very different from the rest because the studio didn’t think it was going to be a big hit,” she said. “They hired Jon Favreau to direct who was great. And they hired Robert Downey Jr., who was unhireable at the time. His career was at a very low point.”

“We improvised almost every scene of that movie," the actress continued. "We would write scenes in the morning in Jon’s trailer. It was like doing an independent film. Then the movie was such a huge hit that then we didn’t make them like that anymore.”

It doesn't sound like Paltrow has much interest in reprising the role of Pepper Potts - especially if Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark isn't involved.

“Oh my god, stop yelling at me!” she jokingly responded when asked why she stopped playing Pepper during a recent Q&A with fans on Instagram. “We just stopped doing it because Iron Man died. And, why do you need Pepper Potts without Iron Man? I don’t know. Call up Marvel and yell at them, not me. I’m just sitting here.”

Paltrow does raise a good point: Does the MCU really need Pepper without Stark, especially with Riri Williams/Ironheart in line to take up the mantle of the next Armored Avenger?

Despite Paltrow's comments indicating that she really is done with the character, rumors persist that there are future plans for Pepper/Rescue in the MCU, so we'll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

What do you think? Any interest in seeing Paltrow back as Pepper Potts in some capacity? Drop us a comment down below.

Agree with her, Pepper without Tony just isn't that interesting IMO. Their dynamic is what made them fun to watch together.

IMO, yeah, I agree. Pepper Potts isn't really needed anymore... Maybe a short cameo but that's all.

@Alucard28 - At max I would say a cameo of Rescue without ever seeing her face to my mind, if anything down the road no actual Pepper unless or until Tony's daughter is old enough to maybe become the new Rescue and I'd be fine tbh if not even then getting Paltrow back. She was great bouncing off RDJ but never been a big fan of her and these days doesn't seem interested in acting. Certainly not in blockbuster types, to be worth bringing back as her goo stuff makes enough money she would likely demand an unrealistic fee and high chance be a lackluster dialing it in job for her.

@SorceresSupreme - - No you don't, becuase I'm not.

Gwyneth being pretentious has nothing to do with fragility. That's just been common knowledge for a long time.

The likes of you are, and your comment is proof.

What I say often times angers you to the point that you just try to masquerade that anger with a fake "lmao".

In reality you're just irritated by me. You probably heavily abuse the term "fragility" due to your limited vocabulary. 😁

She doesn't even remember what properties she's been in. How would she know what to watch?

Wow, the CG of Paltrow’s face in the Rescue helmet, from the header image has NOT aged well.

I came her for the comments, and I'm not disappointed.

Anyway, she's right. The movies have lost that independent feel of the first few phases. And indeed there is no need to put characters in when they don't belong anymore. I'm losing track too

@AmazingFILMporg - b-b-b-bingo! So many people complained about Endgame when it first came out and I never understood it. It’s just as good as Infinity War and in some ways - it’s even better.

Both IW and Endgame are top tier MCU films and it’s shocking when you see how Phase 4 and 5 turned out after ending Phase 3 on such a high note.

Endgame sucked, from poor pacing to having all your favorite Avengers agree to let the world suffer for 5 years rather than reverse time. They turned Thor into a joke. They fridge'd Black Widow and then did a 'female empowerment' scene later. The Time Travel stuff made no sense.

It's a good jumping off point, but that's all it is.

@Scarilian - “ having all your favorite Avengers agree to let the world suffer for 5 years rather than reverse time.”

Did we watch the same film? You must have watched a different one. Also; Endgame is great.

@TheLobster -
The reason Tony accepted saving the world was because it wouldn't impact him and his life.

They could have snapped it so that everything picked back up where it started, arguably that would have been the better ending to the story. Tony sacrifices seeing his daughter grow up because he cares so much about making amends for his actions in the prior films and saving the world - the ultimate sacrifice.

I get it, but it sure is sad to lose that level of freshness

I will add this, her chemistry with Robert Downey Jr was absolute fire. They pretty much brought back the romantic banter from Hollywood of yesteryear in the first iron Man.
