It's a great time to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it's been a very busy day for news relating to that shared world. We're kicking things off with more details about scenes that didn't make it into
Avengers: Endgame, including a reveal that War Machine was nearly Vice President!
Then, we move on to some incredible fan-art putting Superman actor Henry Cavill in Sentry's costume before getting news on a
Black Widow comic book prequel, Benedict Cumberbatch's thoughts on the anti-Marvel debate that's been raging, and more from Jonah Jameson's The DailyBugle.net.
Oh, and if you thought
Endgame was made with Disney+ in mind, do we have a surprise for you!

The Hulk Nearly Met Bruce Banner
At the end of
Avengers: Infinity War, The Hulk refused to come out and help Bruce Banner, but by the time we jumped five years into the future in
Endgame, they'd reached an agreement of sorts.
Now,
writer Stephen McFeely has revealed that once the Jade Giant snapped his fingers while using the Nano Gauntlet, he was going to get a Soul Stone vision which would have brought his two sides together.
"We did actually write a version, and this existed before The Ancient One scene was slowly beaten out, but there was a version where it was Banner talking to The Hulk… and we never shot it, but it was kind of a cool thing to get them both on screen together interacting."
That would have been fun to see and comic book fans would have appreciated it. It's a shame it didn't happen, but seeing as Hulk and Banner were united, it wouldn't have been needed.
An Update On Plans For Hawkeye On Disney+
ComicBook.com recently caught up with
Hawkeye producer Trinh Tran and, as expected, she pointed to both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop being a key part of the Disney+ TV series.
"Well, they're both Hawkeyes in a way, right?" she teased. "So you want to make sure...I'm always interested in introducing new characters. And now we have a fascinating young female who is very interested in this role. So you're going to see a balance of both."
That has to be a reference to Hailee Steinfeld, but Tran wouldn't comment further on her involvement.
War Machine: Vice President
Avengers: Endgame jumped from the present day to five years in the future and we got to see a lot of our favourite characters at very different stages in their lives. Don Cheadle's James Rhodes, meanwhile, remained an Avenger, but things could have been a lot different for the character.
Don't believe us? Well, how would you have liked to see War Machine as the Vice President?
"We took it out because it didn't have any story weight, but I believe that during one draft, in the five year jump, Rhodey became Vice President," writer Christopher Markus told
ComicBook.com.
"Vice President Rhodey." He didn't elaborate on why the idea was scrapped, but it would have been great seeing what sort of impact that would have had on the hero's role in the MCU.
Black Widow Gets A Comic Book Prelude
"From spy to Avenger, the enigmatic BLACK WIDOW has lived many secret lives," reads the solicitation text for this Black Widow comic book prelude. "But how do these disparate episodes add up to the life of the heroic Avenger, and what is the thread that connects her past to her future?"
"Get ready for MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK WIDOW solo film with this glimpse into the storied history of NATASHA ROMANOFF in this tale set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!" Based on past experience, don't expect too many reveals here. However, it will hopefully end up surprising us.
Benedict Cumberbatch Weighs In On The Anti-Marvel Debate
Recently, we've been hearing a lot from filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola when it comes to their thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now
Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch (who is very much a serious actor) has weighed in on the matter.
"What’s great about this, I know there’s been a lot of debate recently with very fine filmmakers coming to the fore saying that these film franchises are taking over everything, but lucky us actors who get to do both kinds of variety of either polarity of budgeting," Cumberbatch says.
"I agree we don’t want one king to rule it all and have a kind of monopoly," he continued. "Hopefully, that’s not the case and we should really look into supporting filmmakers at every level."
Henry Cavill Becomes Sentry
Henry Cavill's time as Superman appears to be over, but you have to believe Marvel Studios would be interested in bringing him into the MCU. Thanks to this impressive piece of fan-art, we see the actor transformed into Marvel character Sentry, a role he would definitely be suitable for!
Whether this could ever actually happen is hard to say (it might be a little too on the nose), but Cavill is an awesome actor and him playing Marvel's unhinged version of Superman would be a lot fun.
A New Video From TheDailyBugle.net
TheDailyBugle.net has shared another video, this time featuring the footage Mysterio sent to J. Jonah Jameson framing Spider-Man as his murderer and making him a villain in the public's eyes.
While most of this could be seen at the end of
Spider-Man: Far From Home, it's fun seeing it out of context and still hard not to wonder whether Quentin Beck somehow faked his demise.
Avengers: Endgame Wasn't Written With Disney+ In Mind
Avengers: Endgame certainly went a long way in setting the stage for many of the shows coming to Disney+, but writer Stephen McFeely has confirmed that wasn't deliberate on their part.
"
It's us and [directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo] and [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige], but it's not like Kevin said, 'You know what, we had a meeting and we're going to have these three streaming services, so let's make sure.'" McFeely told
ComicBook.com.
"I don't know what all the streaming shows are, but it feels like they might come off of Endgame in some ways, but at no point did anybody say, 'That's what we should do, so therefore, sprinkle that in.'"
That's good to know and hopefully a sign that future movies won't be all about setting up what we end up seeing on the small screen. For now, though, time will obviously tell on that front.
MCU Villains Assemble
A Hero is Only as Good as His Villain - Villains of the MCU by me. from r/marvelstudios
The MCU often comes under fire for featuring underwhelming villains but how cool is this poster?
