At the end of Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers decided to leave his shield behind after the truth came out about Iron Man's parents and he went on the run alongside his "Secret Avengers."
When the events of Avengers: Infinity War begin, Steve will have ditched his Captain America persona and grown an epic beard which has helped him stay off the radar ever since. However, Thanos' attack will change things and that's going to bring the hero out of the shadows. With a new status quo for Steve, though, just how much will he have changed since the last time we saw him in the MCU?
"He’s such a monastic character and he has such a quotidian approach to his existence," Chris Evans explains. "I imagine when he wakes up in the morning, there is a routine. Part of that is in his nature, part of that is just to keep his sanity, and that all kind of goes out the window a little bit after [Civil War]. You see a guy who doesn’t stop caring but just puts down some of that obligation."
No longer having any sort of structure in his life is bound to have had some ramifications for the character and Evans went on to hint that we're going to see a much harder, more ruthless version of Captain America in Avengers: Infinity War. "I don’t think it’s in his nature to be too much of a loose cannon, but there’s a lack of formality. He’s checked all that at the door and he’s gone inside himself for a little while, and as a result, he’s a little irreverent and maybe even a little dangerous."
