SPOILERS: AVENGERS 4 Set Photos Give Us An Even Closer Look At Iron Man's New (Alien?) Arc Reactor

It appears as if Tony Stark will definitely be mortally wounded in Avengers: Infinity War as he's rocking an advanced - and possibly alien - arc reactor in the fourth instalment of the Marvel franchise...

We know that Iron Man takes a beating from Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War but it may be even worse than expected! We've known for a while now that Tony Stark will wind up with an arc reactor in both that movie and Avengers 4 but these new set photos provide our best look yet at the device.

As you can see, it appears to be alien in nature or at least far more advanced than past iterations.

Could it be that Iron Man uses alien tech to create a device which will keep him alive? A strange looking watch of sorts has also been spotted and it seems to have a countdown on it. Could that be how much time the hero has left before his heart will give out? That remains to be seen but it wouldn't be too surprising if Iron Man dies in Avengers 4 as Robert Downey Jr.'s tenure appears to be near its end.

What do you guys think? Be sure to let us know your thoughts and theories in the usual place.

The reactor looks like the crap Star-Lord wears across his jacket (which I think is just armor). Obviously not the same thing, but coming from Peter and the others yeah possibly.

Is it really an arc reactor? Why would it appear over his clothes?

We know he's been using arc reactors and RT nodes for years after having surgery to still power his suits, they just weren't in his body anymore, and this one doesn't look like it is either. Maybe it's the armor itself, a new model that deploys from his chest? Some longtime effects of the Extremis virus, slowly killing him again? It could also be that he just needs to pilot one of his old suits for a reason, since that's where the reactor was, he would probably need one where his used to be to do so. I really don't know.

@Asturgis - Tony never injected himself with the Extremis Virus in the mcu.

@Asturgis - I keep saying this, it's probably combined star lord tech, like his ear/mask. It activates tony's suit around him.

@toylled - Holy cow! I never though of that. You might be on to something!

Maybe Tony sees how Star Lord activates and uses that tech, and decides to go one step further and have his hole armor suit up instead of just his helmet

@MeAreLegend - I'm sure I read somewhere that they get a helping hand with tech? I mean it makes sense no? They're going into space so they might need some upgrades.

I guess we will see, but that new iron man armour looked so fluid, with a lack of plates and gaps so maybe thats how it becomes airtight fit for space. Who knows! I'm no genius but it's a reasonable idea.

@toylled - Well GoTG will be on earth so guess Tony could learn some stuff from Rocket...
