Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced us to The Vision, and when he was "born," the android hero was naked. Of course, a naked robot isn't quite the same as a naked human, but it sounds like director Joss Whedon had a very weird request during the early stages of making the Marvel Studios movie.
During a recent interview to promote WandaVision, Vision actor Paul Bettany confirmed that Whedon pushed for the hero's penis to be on full display when he first stood before Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
"I know that Joss Whedon apparently really wanted the rendition of him, when Vision first is born, before he was clothed, he was like 'He’s gotta have a penis.' And everyone - Kevin and Louis, I mean everybody was like 'I don’t know, Joss. I mean, I’m not sure,'" Bettany recalled before echoing Whedon's words, saying "'He has to have a penis! I want to see some drawings of penises!'"
However, it sounds like Whedon saw sense upon seeing concept art of Vision with a penis.
"So, they actually, somewhere is the rendition of Vision’s birth with these penises," Bettany continued, "and they put them all up on the wall, and then they went in, and they sat down, and Joss went, 'Yeah, I’m 100% wrong. I don’t need to see any of these.'"
We're not sure what to make of this one, but that was certainly a strange request on Whedon's part! Regardless, it's clearly for the best that the filmmaker saw sense, so we didn't have to see... that.
