Last year, the world saw two cultural behemoths collide with
the Avengers: Infinity War crossover event in Fortnite. A year later, with Thanos having secured all six Infinity Stones and assembled the Infinity Gauntlet, the popular battle royale game is once again hosting a special Marvel-inspired in-game event.
Developer Epic Games teased on the game’s official social media account a new crossover event between
Fortnite and Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster
Avengers: Endgame. The announcement was accompanied by an image of one of the
Fortnite characters wielding Captain America’s shield, suggesting the new event might actually let players become one of the Avengers, rather than the Mad Titan.
In last year’s game mode, players who found the Infinity Gauntlet would transform into Thanos and wield his mighty powers to eliminate others. This year’s image suggests Epic has swapped out the Infinity Gauntlet for Captain America’s iconic shield, suggesting those who find it will receive some sort of special powers.
It’s unclear if Thanos will return or if any other Avengers will appear in this event, but it sure would be awesome to have a game mode in which one player controls the Mad Titan while several others take on the roles of the surviving Avengers doing whatever it takes to stop him.
Here's the trailer for last year's
Fortnite and
Avengers: Infinity War limited time event.
The
Fortnite and
Avengers: Endgame crossover event is slated to go live on April 25, a day before
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters.
