We can't imagine many people were shocked when Martin Scorsese revealed that he wasn't particularly enamored by Marvel movies, but by adding that he didn't even consider them to be cinema, he incurred the ire of many a fanboy.
The legendary director is obviously entitled to his opinion, but that doesn't mean he's immune from others calling out what has been widely perceived as an absurd assertion.
While chatting to
Variety, Nick Fury actor Samuel L. Jackson didn't mince words when asked for his take on Scorsese's comments.
“I mean that’s like saying Bugs Bunny ain’t funny,” Jackson said.
“Films are films. Everybody doesn’t like his stuff either.”
“There are a lot of Italian-Americans that don’t think he should be making films about them like that. Everybody’s got an opinion, so I mean it’s okay. Ain’t going to stop nobody from making movies.”
It's hardly a surprise that Jackson is sticking up for Marvel Studios (although it is worth noting that he has worked with Scorsese in the past), but that doesn't mean he's wrong. Again, nobody is up in arms because Scorsese doesn't like Marvel movies, but his comments do seem a little dismissive (at best) of anyone that does.
