AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Hi-Res Concept Art Features An Alternate Ending And The Vision's Demise

In this awesome batch of concept art from Avengers: Infinity War, the final battle between Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Thanos plays out differently, while we also see The Vision's demise and Soul World.

Avengers: Infinity War was a movie shrouded in secrecy so we knew nothing about how it would end before the epic ensemble reached theaters. That wasn't a bad thing, of course, as it made all those big character deaths and that shocking ending a genuine, jaw-dropping surprise.

However, it turns out that things in the final act - specifically during the Battle of Wakanda - could have played out quite a bit differently. You'll find that in the concept art below, while we also have pieces which put the spotlight on the moment Thanos murdered The Vision and his subsequent visit into
a realm fans have since dubbed "Soul World."

It's definitely interesting to see what might have been and knowing the moment Thor took down Thanos could have been different makes you wonder about some of the ideas Marvel Studios originally had! So, to take a look at this epic batch of hi-res concept art, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below to check it out.

Captain America takes the fight to the Outriders in this stunning piece of artwork and it's clear that the Russos envisioned this battle for the fate of the universe being a pretty gritty affair.

Look closely and you'll notice that The Vision is doing battle with Ebony Maw. That obviously happened in the movie but what we didn't see was the Mad Titan watching from afar.

Is Thanos admiring Wakanda's beauty or simply watching the battle raging below? Either way, he's decked out in full armour here, a look we've since learned will actually be saved for the sequel.

Another beautiful piece of artwork, here we see the Scarlet Witch doing everything within her power to hold Thanos back as she makes the heartbreaking decision to kill the android she loves.

Thanos stands triumphant over Earth's Mightiest Heroes and it seems as if Captain America is the only one left to try and stop the villain from placing that final Infinity Stone of the Gauntlet.

After having the Mind Stone torn from his head, The Vision was left greyed out and unresponsive. Some fans believe he'll return in the sequel looking like he did in the West Coast Avengers.

As Thanos marches closer, the Scarlet Witch uses her amazing abilities to destroy The Vision, a decision which would ultimately prove to be fruitless once the Mad Titan reversed time.

Here's that alternate ending we were talking about. As you can see, Marvel originally planned on having The Avengers try and hold the Mad Titan back as Thor attempted to deliver a killing blow.

I'm guessing that the thought process behind this sequence being changed was that it would ultimately be too similar to what happened on Titan when Iron Man's team tried to stop him!

Regardless, it would have been very interesting seeing this play out but Thor acting on his own accord and still failing arguably has a much more dramatic feel to it than this would have had.

Here, we see the fateful moment that the God of Thunder would have realised he should have aimed for Thanos' head instead. It's at this point in the movie, he obviously snapped his fingers...

From there, we were transported into Soul World where Thanos communicated either with a vision of Gamora or what's left of her soul after he murdered his favourite daughter earlier in the film.

The lake of blood has been added to these designs, something many fans didn't actually notice on a first viewing. Just think, some people thought Marvel wouldn't go dark after Disney acquired them!

Really hoping for the MCU version of this in A4 (or beyond):

Rumor has it that Vision will at least make an appearance in the Scarlet Witch series on DisneyPlay.

@L0RDbuckethead - I was about to write that.

This is the definite proof this is happening (if the loss of colour seen in the film wasn't enough):

More great artwork. I actually really like the one of Thanos looking over the battle of Wakanda, but his entrance in the film was best. It also would have been interesting to see the main Avengers trying to remove the gauntlet, but again I think what we got was better.

Vision is coming back as White Vision in A4, been calling that since I saw Infinity War opening night.

@HeavyMetal4Life - That's a solid call as usual.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Today we prepare ourselves for the eventual A4 trailer by remembering the awesomeness that was Infinity War.

I don't know why Widow is even trying to hold Thanos there...

Do we really need an article for every piece of concept art Josh?

When they’re doing this you know they’re about to kickstart that Avengers 4 promotion

@XelCorp - lol, "they" aren't doing anything. Josh has a wedding to pay for hence why you're seeing a lot of these pieces of concept art. They're probably scans from his own copy of the art book, or elsewhere.

Very nice artwork. Although, why the assumption that Vision is fighting Ebony Maw in that one picture and not Corvus Glaive as he did in the film? Also, the lanky shadowy figure in the picture has a cape as Glaive does and Maw does not. Nitpicky of me? Yup.

Also, intriguing to see that the Hulk was possibly original supposed to be part of the final battle and that trailer "fake out" might've really been a delted scene. Cool stuff!

@Feralwookiee - well they did say they went back and forth about whether hulk would show up
