Awesome. It will be interesting to see Thor fight someone as strong as he is because in Thor he really didn't have an equal to fight with.

That's right Knossis, in their very first meeting Thor asks Odin for a boon, that he can go temperarily without his hammer without turning back to Don Blake so he could test his strength vs Hulk and held his own.

Stan Lee actually created Thor because he wanted someone stronger than the Hulk. If you would read the early Marvels, you could pretty much see that Thor was, although Marvel usually wimps out and shows them as equal. Thor actually is stronger, though.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 4/16/2012, 12:04 PM
MediaMan - Base strength, you mean? Because we don't know Hulk's top strength. You may not have heard, but the angrier Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets. Also, Abomination is stronger than the Hulk at base strength.

i REEEEALLY hope they fight to a stand still, cause if thor just gets pwned, thatd be exactly right, he would get pwned by everyone in the whole movie, and thats just not right at ALL. soooooo pumped right now.

true.

@MediaMan

Marvel's changed it over the years to show that Hulk's strength varies depending on how angry he is, where even if he's still hulked out, his strength kinda decreases when he takes moments to "calm down." His strongest so far was in World War Hulk where his two psyches (banner/hulk) were both mad and were in agreement.

Thors strength has varied as well depending on having the Odinforce or not, Mjolnir with him or not, or whichever magical equipment/blessing he's got with him at the moment.

The two could actually go toe to toe now and things will vary depending on the setup. I'd say that Thor's strength is more consistent though, as Hulk's fluctuates depending on what the Banner psyche in his head is letting him get away with.

i know we've heard "everyone fights everyone" in this movie. and i get that alot of you already got to see it. but the majority of us have to wait. is it too much to ask that you just title the article "Chris Hemsworth comments on epic fight scene in Avengers. SPOILER WARNING"

I've been doing a good job of avoiding anthing spoilerish so far. now i know how people feel when they level these complaints. seeing this sucked for me.. :(

Haha. I think this will end up in another Thor vs. Hulk thread ..

Let me contribute:

Thor is more powerful (to say he is versatile is an understatement)
Hulk is stronger (he really is the strongest there is)

There is a difference.

@MediaMan - Your right, Stan Lee also said in a interview that DC had superman who was like a God amongst men so he wanted to do one even better and have a actual God amongst men.

@MassExecutions - Your also right that the angrier Hulk gets the more powerful he becomes but Thor has never gone full power against Hulk because he is scared of what will happen to Banner.

Let Thor do a Cosmic Hurricane and take out the plant and the solar system.

as far as the comics go this issue got settled in the Fear Itself event from marvel comics. during battle with a possesed (by The Serpents enchanted evil hammerthing) Hulk, Thor said to the Hulk: "I cannot beat you, you know" and Hulk just says "I Knew." Thor says "Did you," and with the last of his strength swings his hammer and sends Hulk flying into space. with that Thor collapsed onto the ground and had to be carried off the battlefield. last thing he says is "to be continued, Banner."
MediaMan
MediaMan - 4/16/2012, 12:55 PM
@MassExecutions-

yes, the Hulk does get stronger the angrier he gets, but that doesn't mean his strength is infinite. It's not. And his base strength (non-angry, so to speak) is well below Thor's. When he gets angry is when it gets into Thor's range.

Speaking of anger, something that is not often mentioned is that when Thor goes into Warrior Madness (which rarely happens), his strength can increase tenfold. No other Marvel hero on their best day could come near that.

That said, Marvel has played with their relative strengths over the years, butt the bottom line is, Stan The Man specifically wanted his strongest character in Thor (not going into Thor's additional powers, which he rarely uses).
MediaMan
MediaMan - 4/16/2012, 12:56 PM
@surtur- good points.
MediaMan
MediaMan - 4/16/2012, 12:58 PM
@seajay- many people have said/thought that- that the Hulk is stronger, but Thor is more powerful. Actually, though, Thor is (or was supposed to be) just plain stronger as well (that includes Hercules, etc).

If you go back to the Marvels under Lee & the years thereafter, the Hulk could never beat Namor underwater. But Thor did it without breaking a sweat (much to Namor's surprise). And that was just in a fistfight, without Thor turning loose the whole thunder & lightning bit.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 4/16/2012, 12:59 PM
Seejay is right, Thor is more powerful but Hulk is stronger.

Yeah, Thor could throw Hulk into space or maybe destroy the planet Hulk is standing on with the Odinforce, and I guess that would qualify winning, but I don't think you can guarantee either one of those things would kill the Hulk.
MediaMan
MediaMan - 4/16/2012, 1:03 PM
@BlackFlash - that's an interesting point re Superman. Lee has written that he wanted a stronger character than the Hulk, but he couldn't figure out how to do it, until he finally came with the idea of a god. Hence, Thor.

IOW, Lee's specific purpose in creating Thor was to have someone stronger than the Hulk.

I don't want to hijack the discussion about the movie, though. Me, I hope it sets a box office record for opening weekend :)

Hulk is very strong, but there is no way he could defeat a God. The creator (Stan the Man Lee) has said this himself. Argument over. Plus if Thor destroyed Earth it would be game over since Hulk needs air to breath...
ForceOfLegend
ForceOfLegend - 4/16/2012, 1:13 PM
Plus we all know Odin would smite Hulk easily. But that is another argument.
