Jon Favreau May be Helming Avengers Too!

Jon Favreau May be Helming Avengers Too!

Dear Lord, let this be true! An insider source at AintItCool.com has given us the explanation why Marvel movie dates have been moved around, and the reasoning is that they want Favreau to direct The Avengers!

“‘Avengers’ is delayed a year because of financing issues but also because the plan is for Favreau to helm it. Everybody here loves the guy and he wants to do it, but it would have been impossible for him to do before the date change given his ‘Iron Man 2′ commitments. Also partly the reason why he agreed to do the Stark sequel on such an accelerated schedule was so he could get given first dibs on this. It would still be a punishing schedule for him, so hes not firmly confirmed yet, but he is certainly the presumptive director at this point.”

That's great news. They really need to get on casting for the two major roles though. Out of all the posts i've been reading over the past few weeks, none of us have come up with solid actors to play Captain America or Thor. The only good choice was the Skarsgard guy from True Blood and Karl Urban. Both actors could pull off Thor very well in my opinion. Urban more than Skarsgard. I guess.

Who in the hell should play Captain America?

Shaman and Rorschach01 seem to have good heads on their shoulders. What do you guys think?

The ROCK as Captain America!
;)

I don't know... Karl Urban would be cool.

As long as he isn't Puny and Weak Looking like SuperMan I'll be happy.

Farve on the Avengers Movie...EXCELLENT NEWS!

Wish it was Sooner ofcourse but I understand the time it takes for Quality.

We'll have Other Great Movies to Hold us Over till then.

MARVEL should never of given a date in the first place if they aint gonna keep to them!!! Mr Favreau!!!! Bruce Willis as NICK FURY lol!!! Heh heh! Hopefully JUSTICE LEAGUE will keep to its roots!!! ; ) But then its done by WARNERS/DC and their last two movies TDK, WATCHMEN have shown all the MARVEL movies up! Though i like INCREDIBLE HULK, and IRON MAN! But both dont come close to those two DC ones!!! Well hope FAV see's this and takes note!!! ; )

How about Jensen Ackles for Cap? he's got the build, old fashioned looks...I think he'd be a good choice. But this is awesome too! Favreau did an awesome job with Ironman, he should be able to pull this one off with greatness

Cheers mattlask. Great news about Fav!

Man Cap is a hard pic. Alot of people (Shaman included) think a younger actor (like Jensen Ackles) is the way to go, and while this is almost certainly how Cap will be cast in the movie, i think a slightly older actor would be much better. Someone like Aaron Eckhart would be great. But im sure there are better. Im not really a Captain America fan, in fact the only comic series i enjoyed reading him in was Civil War..so im not the best to pic for that role.

As for Thor i havnt heard better than Karl Urban myself. But if Josh Holloway could get to grips with the Shakespearian style dialogue i think he would LOOK like a savage Thor.

I want to see another Hulk movie...any one see a schedule for that? It did about the same $$ opening night as the Watchmen.....that should count for something.

MarkCassidy - 3/13/2009, 3:15 PM
Hulk will just turn up in either Iron Man 2 (prob just Banner) or you wont see him until the Avengers..in which he will go rouge and be the "Villain" until the rest of the team manage to get him under control and they all face off against the Big Bad..whomever that is!

Favreau is an excellent director, he really cares about the work he is puttin into the movies he does. I feel badly that people associate him as the director of Daredevil when in truth he was just a supporting role. He is also a great actor as well, my favorite role of him was in The Replacements, boy was he nuts.

mutantJ - 3/13/2009, 3:28 PM
'James Preston Rogers' hmm yea i can actuali see Mark Valley as cap..he looks like an all time american hero but not that stupid James Preston Rogers he ain smart enough to tie his own shoe laces let alone handle the vocabulary of thor..as it was said in previous posts any actor can get buff and have a wig and be made to luk taller like that dude from 300..just cuz hes tall and buff don make him a gd candidate
BartonIsHawkeye88
BartonIsHawkeye88 - 3/13/2009, 3:29 PM
yep
and i whole-heartedly believe cap should be played by a guy in his mid-late 30s
(he has been thawed since the 70s)

plus josh duhamel or Jensen ackles could be awesome as hawkeye
mutantJ
mutantJ - 3/13/2009, 3:30 PM
sam worthington? hell nah! Mark Valley looks like the logical choice
mutantJ
mutantJ - 3/13/2009, 3:32 PM

MarkCassidy - 3/13/2009, 4:00 PM
I cant stand "The Stath"..hes risible, and just shave your [frick]ing head already!

Sam Worthington..sure he looks the part but have any of you seen him in anything?? Just because hes in 2 big upcoming blockbusters doesnt mean he will be good.

Wow! He certainly has shown himself capable of tranlating comics to film. I am curious to see how he brings together the likes of Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man (et al) and still maintain believability.
Scuzz
Scuzz - 3/13/2009, 4:19 PM
i always thought it should be more of a collaberation, but i guess that would be kind of a mess! anyway, jon is a good director and i certainly enjoyed IM but i think they should let someone else have a go! maybe a name since this is such a huge movie.

i just had a casting thought, this prob wont be popular but what about Ben Mckenzie as hawkeye and steve zahn as hank pym? stupid choices?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/13/2009, 4:36 PM
I like Steve Zahn as Pym! Very left field but hes a fantastic actor and could deffo pull it off...not sure who Ben Mckensie is?

it sounds stupid, but its ryan atwood from the OC. he is actually a really good actor, he has a decent look and he is in the right kind of shape!

All directors should be geeks like him.

i am curious, what are your 4 favourite marvel movies?
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 3/13/2009, 5:12 PM
Alright, I looked up all the Cap suggestions, and debated amongst myself, and Mark Valley is Captain America, he's got the look, the right age, if he built himself up, he'd be just right
mutantJ
mutantJ - 3/13/2009, 5:14 PM
i agree i think that incredible hulk was better ONLY cuz u saw hulk and he had alot more screen time, plus the last 'main villin' fight was longer and alot less retarded then the iron man vs iron monger scence..come on what was that btw? buh sayin that i did like iron man regardless..buh if john is to direct this he needs to up his game a lil the avengers is a very big responsabilty

MarkCassidy - 3/13/2009, 5:26 PM
The end of Incredible Hulk was like Daffy Duck Vs Bugs Bunny! 2 cartoon characters fighting! lol, im being harsh, the special effects were good but that movie didnt grab me like Iron Man, didnt suck me in. Plus Liv Tyler was awful as Betty Ross. I actually didnt think that Hulk was any better than Ang Lees version. At least he tried to bring some complexity and human drama to the characters..he wasnt altogether successful but Incredible Hulk didnt even bother to try. As a wham bang action flick it was good but i like a little more to my movies than that..Iron Man had both i thought.
mutantJ
mutantJ - 3/13/2009, 5:31 PM
yea i hear u..but i think both movies are good and have their little hickups here and there but for avengers...boi...its a big thing..thats like all potential blockbuster movies rolled into 1..he realy has to hit the nail on the head not just with the characters..but with a solid story line..and btw not but raping any of the characters like what has been romoured for deadpool..but we can only hope
