Kevin Pennington Will Not Be Hawkeye in The Avengers

The actor professes that he will definitely not be wielding a bow and arrow for Marvel Studios, and shares his thoughts on who should be cast in the role...

Over the past week, 90210 actor Kevin Pennington has been receiving a lot of press from the comic book movie world. A rumor that he had been cast as a remodeled S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in a three picture deal for Marvel Studios was later confirmed by Pennington himself. Though the role is being kept secretive, we do know that it will be a fan favorite character that is being revamped as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The other day, the rumored short-list of characters Pennington has been cast to portray was down to three: Clint Barton (known to fans as Marvel's resident archer Hawkeye), Noh-Varr (a Kree alien who goes by the name Marvel Boy) and Rick Jones (a friend to both Bruce Banner/Hulk and Steve Rogers/Captain America). In a poll conducted here on ComicBookMovie.com, almost 50% of users voted that they would like to see Pennington portray the new Clint Barton, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., in The Avengers. Yesterday Pennington shared a bit more information regarding the role with his followers on Twitter:

The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner told the media last year that he had several meeting with Marvel Studios regarding the role of Barton. Although it's been several months since any word of the character's involvement in Marvel movies has leaked, comic fans still consider Renner to be the frontrunner for the role.

If the rumored Pennington short-list is accurate, this would now leave two characters; Noh-Varr and Rick Jones. Though these two characters are literally worlds apart, they could both serve to usher in a broader Marvel movie-verse for future films. How long will it be before confirmation hits of the role the actor landed? Eager fans may have to wait until this year's San Diego Comic Con International, which starts on July, 21st, 2010. Another message from Pennington showed that he will be in attendance, more than likely for the official announcement:

That would be sweet! But the cynical side of me thinks he'll end up like Olivia Munn, instead of obscure reporter he'll be obscure shield Agent

Good Stuff Multi.

How reliable do you think the report is that his role was down to those 3 characters? Noh-Varr would be cool but it seems too much at this point to introduce him, don't you think?

My money's on Rick Jones:-)

You know he could just be playing some young rookie Shield agent. Just because he is in Avengers doesn't mean he'll be a superhero.

The guy speaks sense when it comes to Jeremy Renner though. I wonder why he decided to mention him...something he's seen online or a little teaser because he knows more that he's letting on perhaps?

Although it would be great to see Noh-Varr introduced, I think I'd rather they introduce Captain Marvel first if they're going to set up the Kree-Skrull war (which is sadly unlikely as I imagine Fox own the Skrull rights with the FF) especially as Noh-Varr wasnt a part of the storyline...still, I ouldnt really care if they changed that. Oh, and nice find MULTI! :)

@ Multi, true. I tell you what would be freaking awesome though and I'm not sure if this has been dismissed already but what about the Sentry?

Sounds good Multi. Maybe we'll just hang out at the airport for a few days before SDCC and kidnap interview as many stars, directors etc. for the exclusives.

If its down to these, Rick Jones seems more plausible for now.

Although I'm rooting for this costume because as much as I love the classic one, I dont think it would work...

I think that the Skrull being the villains makes a lot of sense, and having Nor-Varr in the film would point to that. However, last time I brought this up somebody said Loki and the Hulk were the villains. Never found confirmation of this, though.

I could definitely see Renner as HawkEye.

I'm hoping for Noh-Varr... is that Hawkeye black by the way? Maybe they will make him black in the film so the movie is more diverse?

Noh-Varr has a lot of different possibilities... Rick Jones could have some good scenes with Hulk and Cap but I don't really see them having the time for that. Noh-Varr would be better for future films too.

I'm leaning towards Rick Jones just for the fact that by the time the Avengers comes out, at that point we've already been intoduced to the Hulk and Captain America, so setting up Rick Jones won't take a huge effort. Unless the Skrulls have something to do with the Avengers plot (which at this point I doubt they will), introducing any Kree, Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell, Marvel Boy, Noh-Varr, etc. will eat up a lot of screen time unnecessarily. Not for nothing, but when I see an Avengers movie, I want to see the core team on screen. Save all the space stuff for Silver Surfer.

I'm for Rick Jones as well. He's not my favorite character, but it would be a good nod to the original Avengers.

Thank God he's not Hawkeye! Pennington does not have the right look for the part. This is a great relief. I'd also prefer to see the classic Hawkeye onscreen, both in origin and costume.

As I've said before, I think Pennington could make a great Rick Jones. Wouldn't be opposed to him as Noh-Varr either, if that could lead to a Kree-Skrull war.

Poni can you add a new poll? Rick Jones or Noh-Varr? (but make sure ya give some benefits of having either one in the film, before too... lol)

I don't know but I have the feeling that Jeremy Renner is indeed Clint/Hawkeye. I mean 1) there were rumors about an offer back then but I never knew how that ended up, 2) Renner was invited to the IM2 premiere (and I know that's random but still) and 3) now this guy is saying that he's not Hawkeye but that Renner would be perfect for the role (and I know that he probably said that because of the old rumors but maybe he knows something, I mean, he's locked to be an unknown character for CA/Avengers, he must know stuff)

Anyway, this is just wishful thinking but hey, a girl can dream right? :')

@LEEE777

its funny i said no way he will play Hawkeye most likely his playing Rick Jones or someone else. but some people did not believe me oh well.

if Kevin Pennington not going to play Rick Jones he also can be shield agent Jasper Sitwell.

bio:
Young, crew cut, clean-cut Jasper Sitwell graduated at the top of his class at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, with particularly high marks in airborne jump school and underwater maneuvers. When first introduced to S.H.I.E.L.D. Executive Director Nick Fury, the new agent's eager-beaver attitude meets initially with mock (and occasionally real) frustration from Fury and second-in-command Dum Dum Dugan, but Sitwell soon proves himself and earned his fellow agents' respect — albeit tinged with occasional humor aimed at his youthfulness and idealistic naïveté. Mentored by Fury himself and occasionally appointed interim director when Fury is on solo missions in the field, Sitwell later is assigned to Stark Industries as liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and that defense-industry contractor, which designs and manufactures much of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ordnance and equipment.

i bet you he wont be either of those characters, there are other outside possibilities:

Hank Pym
Namor
Black Knight
Quicksilver
Captain Marvel
Sentry

Bare in mind i said "OUTSIDE" possibilities.

i'm backing Noh-Varr because that will give us another element into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Iron Man gave us technology.
Hulk gave us Super Soldiers.
Thor is going to us Magic.
Noh-Varr can give us Aliens.

roll it all together and you get one awesome franchise!!!

btw

wow gambit@ i guess we can blame YOU for sh!tty character portrayels lol
i think he is playin a major character like cap marvel over rick jones due 2 the 3 movie deal...i mean...rick jones was more a hulk character and wouldnt really fit in2 the marvel universe without a hulk storyline...i cant really see marvel already gearing up for 3 more hulk related movies...when they cant even tie down bruce banner himself (norton)...in my opinion rick jones isnt happening...my moneys on cap marvel or sum1 totally different like the vision or sumtin :)

can sumbody put sum movie/tv clips of this guy up on here...ive neva seen him act be4 in my life...maybe giv us a better shot at seeing what marvel sees and maybe 1 step closer in guessing who he could be
