MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Set For A Shock Weekend Record Of $200.3M Domestically

Deadline confirms that Disney and Marvel Studios made a record $69.7M at the North American box office yesterday after earning an impressive $80.5M on Friday. While official figures aren't set to be released until a little later today, Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble is currently on track to add upwards of $49M to that total, making a final sum of $200M a guarantee (we'll be sure to update you when those figures come through later today or tomorrow). Basically, The Avengers has managed to do what Voldermort failed to acheieve across eight films; they have crushed Harry Potter, smashing the previous record held by The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169M) with ease. Sources also indicate that the worldwide total now stands at $640+M and other analysts (see below) are confirming a domestic gross of $200.3M in total.

See? This is what I've been talking about. Dark Knight Rises has a lot to do Domestically and at the Foreign Box Office to compete with Avengers numbers.

Of course Dark Knight Rises will make a lot of money, but I'm still skeptical it can do more than Avengers numbers while sorta competing with Spider-Man and also having no Joker.

Just doesn't seem possible to me.

Youd think some of this money was coming to us the way we're reacting. This is unprecedened though. To potentially beat the last HP film is huge. Honestly didnt expect this, completely warranted though on the final product. Want to see it a third time. Joss Whedon and all involved are something else.

Yeah TDKR has it's work cut out for it... even if it sold the same amount of tickets as The Avengers it would probably wind up around 170-175.

This exceeded everyone's expectations. Quality wise and now box office wise. And the thing is, this movie truly deserved it.

I can't wait to see all the crow eaters and detractors trying to explain this feat away.

Marvel deserves every amount of praise they will receive. Congrats to Marvel and I hope WB is taking notice.

This was easily one of the best movies I have ever seen! I have already seen it twice, once in IMAX 3D and once in regular and both times I was just blown away! Being a Marvel Comic reader for over 20 years now, it was like seeing images right out of my favorite books come to life! Thank you Marvel!

I'm just happy that this pretty much means we're guaranteed a Marvel Cinematic Universe for much longer than what is already probably planned by Marvel.

Also, since I liked the movie so much, Marvel make take more cues from it and add more action in the rest of their movies! Of course that last part may be me hoping.

3D prices of course give The Avengers an edge. But TDKR can match this or come close I'm predicting 180-190 million for TDKR though. I think though at the end TDKR will have the legs to out gross the Avengers by the end of the summer. We'll see how it goes.

Just yesterday I said that by next weekend, this could gross upward of 350 million. Guess that was on the low side. Also, now I think that when it's all said and done, it could reach as high as 2 billion worldwide.

What movie will reach again this number, and when? Care to guess guys?

Why are you so obsessed with Box-office? It never takes into account the feelings of those who've seen it,good or bad.Only bums on seats.Billions of people fly by plane,doesn't mean they enjoyed the experience! Get over the money factor people.
Saying that,I did enjoy the movie alot!.But perfect it isn't.And after 3 viewings I've already run out of reasons to watch it again.A lack of character depth may be why...
