Recent Anthony Mackie Q&A Alludes To ‘The Falcon’ Appearing THE AVENGERS Sequel?

Without saying so himself, an interviewer's question towards Anthony Mackie, about playing Falcon in the Captain America sequel, may have confirmed he'll reprise the role in The Avengers sequel.

Speculation that Sam Wilson/Falcon would take flight in Joss Whedon’s anticipated follow-up to The Avengers wasn’t initially fueled when Anthony Mackie joined Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was actually when Marvel announced a new animated Avengers Assemble series “designed to reflect the movie,” revealing Falcon as the newest member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

However, since then, besides the casting of Mackie, there has been no further indication of our speculation coming to fruition; sort of until today. During a recent interview with The Root, Anthony Mackie was inquired about his preparation for The Winter Soldier. Before getting to the question, the site reminded the actor, “In the upcoming The Avengers 2 and Captain America sequel, you’ll play the Falcon.” And in response to the question, “How are you preparing?” Mackie failed to correct the interviewer that it’s just the Captain America sequel he’ll take part in.

“I’ve actually become a gym rat again,” the actor said preferably, continuing, “But instead of getting bigger -- because the Falcon was written as a man who was 6 foot 4 and 230 pounds; he was massive -- mine is a different take on who he is, as opposed to being specific to the comic book, like all of the Marvel movies. You’ll definitely get your Falcon fix, and I will look amazing!”

Deeper into the Q&A, the interviewer mentioned The Avengers more directly, this time suggesting that Mackie's description of his recent film, The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete, “sounds like a far cry from the inevitable big-budget push of a blockbuster such as The Avengers...ready for the media blitz that movie will get?” Without correcting The Root yet again, Mackie went on to respond discussing the film industry, his anonymity and modest approach to acting jobs.

Could we be reading too much into things and letting our fanboy-ambitions get the best of us? Of course. However, it is still very much possible and likely that Anthony Mackie will reprise The Falcon role as the newest member of The Avengers’ cinematic team - especially considering credible sources reported that ‘Crossbones’ actor Frank Grillo will do the same. What do you think?

Marvel Studios already describes their highly-anticipated sequel to the No. 3 highest grossing film of all time, “Marvel's The Avengers,” as another “big cinematic event.” And expected to feature the reassembly of iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow & Nick Fury taking on a new unexpected enemy, new additions to the superhero team up of a lifetime are possible. Expecting reprisals from Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” sequel is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. And set for release May 1, 2015, the film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to the sequel, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

@Levitikuz
I think they'll probably take out one character from the last film, and add 2 completely new characters, or characters that only had cameos in prior films. Knowing Whedon, one of them will likely be female, and I'm hoping for either Ms. Marvel or the Wasp. Although Falcon is a likely inclusion, I doubt War Machine will be in it.

I wouldn't mind Anthony Mackie as The Falcon in The Avengers 2.

I thought that went without saying. I'm pretty sure the second member will be a female because we all know the Avengers needs more than one female member.

Joss Whedon was extremely close to introducing Wasp in the first Avengers, and there's a rumor that Jane is going to cameo in Iron Man 3. They could work Ms. Marvel's origin into the film somehow, or just briefly explain it. I honestly think we're going to see less and less of origins of characters from now on.

i feel like there doing this to fill there check list in a more biracial avengers 2, seeing as the first was a bunch of white dudes and one white chick. but as much as i would like o see falcon and war machine, i want more hahahah, like black panther, antman, mrs.marvel, wasp, iron fist, dr.strange.and i feel if they do falcon and war machine we might have to wait for another 2, 3 years to get some new peeps, and robert downey does not have another 5, 6 years in him

Falcon and Ant-Man, most likely. Though we could get a surprise GOTG member, anything is possible, especially with the Avengers comic having so many random characters.

I dont know why people think that RDJ can't go for at least 5 or 6 more years. Do you not see how well he is aging and then on top of that there is something called hair dye. RDJ wont be going anywhere for quite sometime.

I also think we may get a Ms. Marvel cameo in GOTG

I picture GOTG ending with them going to Earth as a last resort to warn the Avengers of the coming threat... Then that's where A2 begins.

Anyways, if Falcon does perhaps get a role in A2, I think of it not an actual hero-position, per se, but rather a side character role, much like how Pepper Potts was in The Avengers. He'll just be the guy beside Cap.

CA:TWS, BABY!

I really hope Phase 2 really opens up and shows us how big the Marvel world can be, There should be a feeling of "Avengers was just the beginning, look how much bigger everything is, look how many secrets there still are"

Im just hoping Whedon sticks with his plan to make Avengers 2 more of a personal story to the characters on the team, i think that would interesting to see after the big spectacle of the first film.
NightForce

@moakynubs yeah I was playing MUA 2 not too long ago and there were SO many minor characters not just shown but referenced also. By Avengers 2 and other future films I want it to be shown that there have been superheroes and villains coming out of the woodwork. I don't want to feel like The Avengers (movie team) are the only heroes around. Perhaps the SHIELD show could help with this.
NightForce
NightForce - 1/19/2013, 9:38 PM
@the14thavenger uh yeah they are going to do the Masters of Evil (hopefully)
Mandarin
Malekith and Kurse
Crossbones
Abomination
Leader hopefully
Any other movie villains I am missing?

Doubt it. I'm thinking Ms Marvel and Wasp as the two new characters. Maybe AntMan. IDK with his film being after Avengers 2 although I still think it should be before Avengers 2. Black Panther should be included too!

Yea, I think he will be in The Avengers 2. I had that feeling since they announced he's going to be in the new Avengers cartoon so they can "reflect" the MCU.

I'm generally sort of OK with the Falcon being in the Avengers2. Though I would have preferred the awesomeness of The Black Panther. Or both. And Wasp, Ant Man and Ms Marvel too.

Falcon being in Avengers 2? No way. I say they should have Whizzer in part 2 along with Triathlon and Gilgamesh.

I can't wait to see his Falcon suit! And he should be in The Avengers 2!

The Avengers 2 team roster also needs more female members:

-Ms. Marvel
-Wasp(Ant-Man is a package deal)

I honestly hope not, I mean unless they do something REALLY awesome with his character, I don't see it, he isn't essential.

Any actor i believe would try to plug a role in a film they desperately want via public outcry

Meh,I really wouldn't be interested in seeing Falcon as a member for Avengers 2. If Whedon is only bringing 2 characters, then he should save the membership roles for Ant-Man and Wasp. They should also save Thanos for a 3rd Avengers film,in order to build up the character development of new members(Intro. Ant-Man and Wasp for the 2nd movie, then give Hank a solo.Same thing with Ms.Marvel and Panther). If Thanos is gonna be main-antagonist for the 2nd film,I don't really think 2 members would be enough to take him down.

I dont feel its right to use Falcon on an Avenger movie before Black Panther

its kind of unfair the iconic character

Panther & Ms.Marvel won't be in Avengers 2. Ant-Man will likely be introduced to create buzz for their movie. I also think Vision is more likely to appear...
