Stan Lee On The Real Reason Behind The Success Of THE AVENGERS

Stan Lee dissects the success of Marvel Studios' The Avengers as only 'The Generalissimo' can! Plus, the Marvel superhero movies he didn't like and confirmation of his Iron Man III cameo.

I make no secret of the fact that I'm a pretty big Stan Lee fan and recently he's been doing more press, some of which has been pure comedic gold. Stan recently attended the Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and shared the following humorous details with the crowd.

On the real reason behind the success of Marvel's The Avengers:
Stan Lee: "Well, you know why it made so much money right? My cameo is placed at the very end and its quick, so what happens if you miss it? These people go back out and buy another ticket so they get to see me!

Will Stan continue the tradition and have a cameo in Iron Man 3:
Lee: "Wait until you see my cameo in the next Iron Man movie! It's so funny!"

Stan usually has nothing to say but good things about Marvel films but did he ever take any exceptions with any of the characters or stories in previous films:
Lee: "I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn't like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in 'Fantastic Four. Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That's not the way I wrote him. I think they're working on a new Daredevil movies and it will be better, so hold your judgment until then."

Which Marvel characters is he still hoping to see make their silver screen debut?
Lee: "Deadpool is such a popular character, I'd be surprised if he wasn't in his own movie in the near future, or introduced in another movie first. They're thinking about a Doctor Strange movie, a Black Panther movie, an Ant-Man movie -- there's just so many ideas in the works right now at Marvel!"

On Spider-Man's 50th Anniversary:
Lee: "When I created him, it was tough. We already had a Hulk, we already had the X-Men, we had the Fantastic Four, so I thought I'd go the insect route. But Insect-Man didn't sound right, and neither did Mosquito-Man. But then it came to me...Spider-Man! Happy 50th Spidey!"

Good stuff as usual from Stan, glad to see that he'll continue the tradition and have a cameo in Iron Man 3. Check out more from Stan at his Official YouTube channel.

What a great man. Not sure on the accuracy of the Dr Strange and Black Panther movies but I'm sure they are still trying to develop them.

If they get someone to write Strange, I hope they are somewhat versed in the ideas behind alchemy, magick, occult, other esoterica and eastern philosophies. With an imaginative enough director for the visuals, that could be mindblowing.

It's interesting to hear his critiques of past Marvel movies.

There have been random claims of a Dr Strange & Black Panther movie since the first Iron Man came out. I am sure there will continue to be rumors of it until they actually do release one.

Yes, I loved his cameo in TASM. He's right about The Hulk size in the 2003 film. I also agree with him about how Dr. Doom was portrayed in those FF films.

I'm glad he was honest about the Doom and Daredevil fails. Doom is one of my all time favorite villains. I just don't think he translates well to film. It's kind of like Volemort? So much of what makes him bad has already happened. He needs too much exposition to really hit the way he does in the comics. He makes cameos all the time just by his name, because characters (FF, Avengers, X-Men, S.H.I.E.L.D., etc) ALWAYS think he's either up to something or a part of it. That's better exposition than, "This guy is so bad he did this, and this, and this, and this..."

Stan hit it on the head with Daredevil, though. He's a serious character, but not so dramatic. Like, give me noir, not tragic-blind-dude... and also no Ben Affleck... or Michael Clarke-Duncan... I want Fassbender as Matt, and John Goodman as Kingpin!!!!

Those pictures are of a holiday resort here in South Africa. It's called The Palace of the Lost City at Sun City. It is in the middle of the bush and there is a game reserve containing all of the big 5 only a few minutes drive away.

I love Stan the Man to death, but he must've had a senior moment during this interview. Spider Man was released BEFORE X-Men. Spider Man was in '62, X-Men was in '63. But he's created so many characters, I guess its hard to keep them all straight. Anyway, Excelsior!!

On Stan Lee's comment on DD. I remember Stan Lee made a similar comment about Garth Ennis Nick Fury. Stan didn't like that it was so violent...
