"No, that was with the director Joss Whedon who's doing The Avengers. So, I'll start shooting Avengers now soon."

"I know what's going to happen to my character in that film, but I'm not allowed to say anything. I'll have to sell my house to pay the fines for that!"

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Samuel L. ELgUaSoN- I don't think he possessed him during the movie, Stellan Skarsgard's character just wanted what was best for Jane

Kind of make sense - especially as Branagh did the after credits sequence on IM2.

I thought that was the worst part of the movie lol....it was ok but could have been better yo. Did anyone think the cube looked super basic and a bit crappy...or was that just me?
Im not gonna lie...im a bit worried for the avengers...dnt get me wrong it could be dope!! But in my opinion i think they needed to establish a couple more characters first...namely ant-man and wasp and hawkeye?!?! This would generate more sales and more money for the film...this needs to be big, bold and brash!! There were things in thor that the cgi could have been worked on more and i dnt want this to transcend to the avengers....where they have to cut corners for money reasons.
I hope im just being pessimist here because i really want it to be good but with the reports for the budget etc im worried....so...thats all really!

Anyone else a bit worried?

Nephillim "the after credits scene was surprisingly non action packed" As opposed to all the action of Nick Fury talking to Tony Stark in his living room, Tony Stark sitting at a bar talking to General Ross and the incredible action sequence of THOR'S hammer stuck in the mud? I agree. He should have been chased into the basement and Nick Fury should have opened the suit case so hard that he rips it in half. Then, they should have screamed their lines at each other.

moneybanks@ My excitement outweights my pessimism. The simple fact that they are putting all these characters into one film after each of them gets their own individual feature is reason enough to get excited. This is the RIGHT way of doing it.

Of course I could pick up on some concerns and worries. Maybe if I was a mulit-millionaire, award winning producer with years of experience in the industry I would go about things in a different way...but I'm not (unfortunately for me!).

Moneybanks@ Also I don't think adding antman and wasp would have generated anymore sales or money for the avengers.

Skarsgaard was a highlight of the movie for me, wanted to see more of his character so glad he was in the final credits and will be a part of The Avengers.

I don't think Selvig was supposed to have been influenced by Loki at all over the course of the movie, only at the end when Loki arrived back on Earth after apparently "dying".

didn't branagh direct the after the credits scene for iron man 2.

cool, good start if you ask me.

Nephillim I see your meaning now. This particular scene is actually more elaborate than all the after credit scenes. But it does fall short in a sense- especially to anyone who's not a geek. Here's why it may not have the same impact as the other end credits;

Revealing Loki to be alive feels more like a self-contained THOR after credits sequence, while the other films point towards other Avengers and the Avengers as a whole.

The cosmic cube is a Captain America reference, but for the sake of the casual viewer and the unappreciative spoiled geek, it should have been something more obvious to Cap like his shield.

IM2 has the best after credit sequence simply because it sets up beautifully the next 'instalment'.

Would have been nice if Thor could set up Captain America (with news of his frozen body being found, etc). But maybe it doesn't fit in with the overall timeline.

When I first saw the cube I didn't even realize I was looking at it. It looked like a video clip of the beach inside of a high tech box......I am the only one who thought that?

guys?

Anyone?

@Alcoholic….lol come back in the room!

It didn’t look like a “cube” at all to me. It really looked like something for the ipad 3 (pretty Earthly and not too cosmic).

Thor after credits scene actually sets up a lot more to the non comic fan than Uron Man 2's did.

My Girlfriend, when we watched Iron Man 2, asked, what's the deal with the hammer?

Same chick, year later, ask me after the post credits scene we just watched, asked how does that block of ice have unlimited power?

Now while she was oviously mistaken, (no worries, I informed her) She understood more about Sam Jackson showing Selvig the cube than she did Thor's hammer in a crater.

If you guys haven't noticed a pattern, the after credits scene on each of these movies has set up the next movie in line.

With the comic con footage in mind (Schmidt breaking down walls looking for the "tesseract" aka cosmic cube) this obviously sets up and builds interest for Cap, as the cube will be explained and showcased throughout the movie, I'm sure

The problem with the after credit scene is that casual Marvel fans like myself had to go home and jump on the net to try and figure out what the thing in the box was. Only then did we understand that it was a direct Cap reference. If people did not look it up, or know already, then the end was really "blah".

The thing in the box is hte "cosmic cube" which is a weapon previously possessed by Red Skull, the villain in the Cap movie- for those who have not figured it out yet.

The IM2 scene was similar to this, as I heard a few people asking what the hammer's significance was, but to me that one was less "blah" because if you don't at least know that Thor was next and/or that Thor wields a hammer, then it isn't supposed to be an Easter egg for you, they are meant for fans.
HelaGood
HelaGood - 5/20/2011, 9:46 AM
@HarrisonBergeron the after credits scenes are not meant to be direct and specific... more to whet your appetite and tie in to the next movie... they don't have to spell everything out for us. true marvel fans will get the whole reference, this is true, but there is enough in the scenes for everyone. think of it as a puzzle piece that belongs to the bigger puzzle... once we see the next movie in line, the piece fits perfectly and makes completely sense.

I get how the cube sets up Cap, but it's obviously going to play a roll in the Avengers right? Since the Rainbow Bridge was destroyed and Selvig is working with it, could it be used to bring Thor back to Earth??
AlcoholicA
AlcoholicA - 5/20/2011, 10:51 AM
@DasBoot

Probably, especially if Loki is possessing him. Cause you KNOW Loki wants to get back to get revenge, and Selvig's science probably wont be fast enough for him. So the cube could open the bridge so Loki can get back, but consequently it allows Thor to Earth.

Whedon directed it? I like how they've started having the director of the following Marvel movie direct the after-credits sequence leading up to their film. It shows more than a connection between films, but also a connection between the people working on them. Which is cool to me.

As for the after credits sequence, I loved it. It took me a minute to realize what Fury had in the box, but Loki's appearance was perfect.

And it seems that at least SOME semblance of the general audience recognizes that each sequence sets up the following film, based on the reactions of the people in the theater I was in.
