Emmy Award-winning actor
Powers Boothe passed away in his sleep on Sunday at the age of 68. Known for his start in Shakespearean roles and Westerns, the Texan actor also had several prominent film and television roles, including his award-winning portrayal of Jim Jones in
Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, along with roles in
Deadwood,
Tombstone, and
24.
The actor was best known to comic fans for appearing in both
The Avengers and
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Gideon Mallick, a member of the World Security Council who was later revealed as a head of Hydra in season 3 of the show. Additionally, Boothe appeared in both
Sin City films, and was credited for various voice work in DC animation, specifically as
Gorilla Grodd in the
Justice League animated series.
Boothe is survived by his wife, Pam Cole, and two children.
