Tom Hiddleston On How He Joined The Avengers Cast And Loki's Role In The Movie!

The actor reveals when and how exactly how he found out he'd be back to take on The Avengers and lets slip some more detail about the role of Loki in the movie saying that it'll be them against him...

In an interview with Vulture the British actor talked more about returning to the role of Loki in The Avengers. To read more about his experiences working on THOR, follow the link below to head on over to the site. For now, here are the relevent excerpts regarding the part he'll play in the 2012 superhero epic.

At what point did they tell you that you would get to be the primary villain in The Avengers too?

Well, I think it was a plan from the get-go, but it wasn't really dead-set until near the end of Thor. What was wonderful is that about four days after I wrapped on Thor, I went out for a cup of tea with Joss Whedon. We sat down at two o'clock in the afternoon, and we were still sitting there at six o'clock. He said, "Listen, you've lived with this guy for six months. I want you to spill the beans and tell me all of his dark secrets. Who is this guy? Why is he who he is?" Ken had already shown him a rough cut of the film, and mercifully, everything I had done accorded with Joss's idea of the character, too. I'm really so flattered that Marvel and Joss think I can take them all on. In Avengers, it's going to be me versus seven of them, and I say "Good luck to them," frankly.

Is there still some ambiguity to Loki in that movie, or is he more of a full-fledged bad guy?

It's tough to say. I think Loki's intelligence is never switched off. Let's put it this way: He has really big, evil plans that will take more than his thunderous brother to put a stop to, but that doesn't mean that the layers aren't still there.

Are there any trepidations that you're committed to so many Marvel films without so much as script approval?

I've got to be completely honest with you, man: Loki has been such an amazing break for me. I think every young actor needs a break, and I owe it eternally to Kenneth Branagh for believing in me, so it's kind of a no-brainer to me. The idea that I can play this juicy role a couple more times? It's a tantalizing prospect.

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

excellent it was pretty obvious that loki was gonna be one of the villains in the avengers.

marvel studios out all other studios respect the source more than anyone else.

i hope loki sends through some trolls & dark elves for the avengers to take on as well, like an invasion force.

His performance in THOR is truly BRILLIANT!!!

Loki is absolutely the best villain in a comicbook superhero movie ever, and I am really looking forward to seeing him again in THE AVENGERS and, hopefully, many THOR sequels.

They need re-create that Avenger's #1 cover in the movie, now that would be EPIC. And when Marvel start's to make movie's about the expanded universe they should do a Thanos movie and make Odin one the major player's on the movie that defeat's him. since Odin has the infinity gauntlet in his hall of secret's it would make alot of sense.

Didn't they already confirm that War-Machine wasn't in The Avengers? So whose the 7th?

1. Captain America
2. Iron Man
3. Thor
4. Hawkeye
5. Black Widow
6. Hulk
7. ???

Maybe he is referring to Samuel L Jackson/SHIELD? Or a new character we haven't been introduced to yet?

Can't recreate the cover to Avengers #1 without two of the five founding members in the group. There is absolutely no reason Ant-man/Giant-man and the Wasp couldn't be introduced in this film. No law that states they must have their own film first. Hawkeye sure doesn't.

Shame on you Kevin Feige and Josh Whedon.
