Why Morena Baccarin Might Already Be in the Avengers

The "V" star might already unofficially have a part in the upcoming 2010 film.

As we have recently learned from both Samuel L. Jackson and THR, four actresses will be screen-testing on Friday for the part of Nick Fury's "sidekick" in Marvel Studios' Avengers. However, I have reason to believe that Morena Baccarin, one of the actresses on the shortlist, has not only already won the role, but has been signed on for the film for quite a few months now.

Most of us have probably heard that Baccarin has been spotted studying Marvel comics in comic book shops over the last couple of months (I'm actually not quite sure what the exact rumor was, so correct me if I'm wrong). There's obviously one reason right there to believe that Marvel Studios has its eyes on her for one of their films.

Also, keep in mind that Joss Whedon, who is the director of the Avengers, and Baccarin have collaborated in the past with the TV series "Firefly" and its spin-off movie known as "Serenity." It is quite possible that while Whedon was writing the script for the Avengers, he had a part in mind for Baccarin the whole time.

For my final and, arguable, most plausible point, I'd like to bring up Baccarin's new sci-fi series on ABC known as "V", where she plays the leader of an alien race that surreptitiously attempts to destroy mankind. Many passionate "V" fans are upset because, as of right now, the popular show only plans to air ten episodes for its second and current season. If "V" follows the same, near-consistent pattern of airing one episode per week, then the show could be finished its season by the end of March. Keep in mind that Jackson mentioned on Jimmy Fallon's show that the Avengers will begin production in April, which could mean that Baccarin could join the cast without any other commitments. Also remember that the announcement of "V" having only 10 episodes this season came sometime in October, which could mean that Whedon has been in talks with Baccarin since then and that the "V" producers reacted to her possible involvement in the Avengers accordingly.

So what do you guys think? Does Baccarin seem more likely for the part than the rest of her competition? And if so, who do you think she will play?

I'm putting my money on Maria Hill.

Don't worry about the typos, Kirk, I'm just dissapointed that it didn't actually come out last year, in 2010, like you say. I really need to see it now. I don't care if they haven't made it, yet.
As for the rest of the article, very well researched and convincing. also, it wasn't just Marvel Comics she was reading, it was Avengers comics! I think you're 100% right, duder.

I think she'll be better suited as Maria Hill than Wasp.

@supersayianfan1

Gabrielle Dell'Otto didn't use Angelina Jole's likeness for Maria Hill, but for Quake, also known as Daisy Johnson. Daisy is Nick Fury's right hand woman.

I didnt want her as Wasp months ago....

but after watching some photoshoots from her, she definetly has the look.

so Id say Baccarin for Wasp!!

Maria Hill for sure. She looks exactly like her, and why would Wasp be Nick Fury's sidekick? That doesn't make any sense.. DCMarvelFreshman also posted news earlier that it's not Wasp http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=29303...
Shannyn Sossamon for Wasp.

Let's see...if "V" ends around March, there's a 30-day hold on the actress, and Avengers shoots in April...pleeeeease let it be Baccarin. She's a perfect Maria Hill, and the MCU is sorely lacking in recognizable S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

Holy Christ let it be her. Although Shannyn Sossamon would be pretty fraking hot too.

I have to just say that your three points really only point to her being up for the part (as we already know), interested in taking it, and available to take it up if successful. Not that she already has it.
But I would be more than happy if she does join the cast. And yeah; Maria Hill (or a similar character) would be an excellent role for her.

I'm a big fan of hers and would love to see her as Janet (Wasp) but, if she is in it (and I hope she is) I think it's more likely that she'll be playing Maria.
Also, I think "V" which started off slow & 'if-y', has become a pretty damn good sci-fi show and do hope it goes on (though I doubt it will).

Oh, wow. I hadn't thought of Morena as Maria Hill. I'd always pictured her as the perfect Wasp but she would absolutely KILL as Maria Hill.

Avengers in some capacity, that just

This is just conjecture but it's a
rumor that seems to make total sense

they're definitely gonna be in there
eventually!

I'm thinking you have no idea how production works.

While it's likely she'll be in the movie, for the reasons of the history she has w/Whedon, V's production is unlikely to be affected by Avengers.

More so, it's likely V's product finished for the season already -- most of the shows which begin their season in January tend to have taped the year before.

In any case, most shows end taping for the season by March, even when they run through May.

@Phlegmbot No, you're right. I'm not familiar with the TV and film industry (you probably could have said that in a nicer fashion though). But I was just throwing out some theories, so I guess we'll see what happens with her possible involvement in the coming weeks.
