6 Reasons Why Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Should Play Batman

You can keep your Jeffrey Dean Morgans and Joe 'Magic Mike' Manganiellos --- here are 6 reasons why Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister from "Game of Thrones") should be the next actor to don the cape and cowl.

Reason #1: Age

Rumor has it that DC is on the prowl for an older actor to don the cape and cowl this time around. Born in 1970, Coster-Waldau has a full decade on the hipster choice for the role, Ryan Gosling, and is just two years younger than the other potential canidate for the role, Josh Brolin. This means that he fits perfectly into the age bracket that the gossip vine has established for the part.

Reason #2: Relatively Unknown to American Audiences

Coster-Waldau has a slew of European movies and minor American film appearances to his name, but outside of his roles in "Mama" and "Game of Thrones", he's a relative unknown to mainstream audiences. Zack Snyder went with a relatively unknown actor when he cast Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, so there is a fairly good chance that he might do so again this time around.

Reason #3: Stunt Experience

If you're unfamiliar with "Game of Thrones", Coster-Waldau's character on it doesn't just lay around on the couch all day being fanned by half-naked women. The role of the Caped Crusader is very demanding physically, so his work on GoT would be a huge asset.

Reason #4: He Can Wear a Suit

... Need I say more? While many fans mock Bale's Batman, there is no denying that Bale played the part of a billionaire playboy perfectly. Whether he's clean-shaven or a little scruffy, Coster-Waldau certainly seems to have the looks and the charm to fill Bale's shoes in this capacity.

Reason #5: Jawline

When you're going to be spending a great deal of your screen time with only half of your face showing, a good jawline is vital. Thankfully, Coster-Waldau has one that you could cut glass with.

Reason #6: Intelligent

Coster-Waldau has already played a detective once on the short-lived FOX series "New Amsterdam" and his character on GoT, Jaime Lannister, isn't exactly a slouch when he comes to putting the pieces together either. A master-tactician is what I'm personally dying to see on film this time around, and Coster-Waldau has already proven that he can play one.

@Dumegg But out of his armor...? He looked very different in modern clothes and darker hair in "Mama".

@Splenda - I can see that.... but I don't think a Daredevil movie will be happening anytime within the next 5-7 years and I think his age might be pushing it at that point. Who knows though? Marvel really has their act together and it might happen sooner than that.

I am in serious doubt that he would be offered the role, seeing as Warner is likely to go for a bigger name for what they see as their only other viable superhero. However, I would be delighted were he to be their choice, simply because I am a fan of his work as Jaime Lannister and (as you highlighted) he would give excellent Bat-chin.

How is he going to be Batman with one hand. Your logic makes no sense lol

I'd pick Idris Elba over this guy! Lol... Seriously, though, I like Brolin. He did an absolutely incredible job in MiB 3. If not him, then McIntyre or Gyllenhal... I really wouldn't be mad at Gossling either. Anyone who doubt that he could do Bruce Wayne justice should watch Crazy Stupid Love, where he plays a rich playboy scarred by the death of his father...

@2Challa - I think CGI could fix that ;)

@MoonDoggyX - Didn't Gosling say after "Drive" he had no interest in doing a superhero movie?

@BlackJack10 I can see your point, though to be fair, Nolan has only really cast a superhero role once, so it's not necessarily a pattern.

Personally, I'm really hoping 'young' will not be the case. We already saw a sortof 'Batman' going through a growth period. Batman is at his most interesting when he has seen more, learned more. When I want a young superhero learning the ropes, I watch Spider-Man. When I want a vet who applies the knowledge he acquired from learning the ropes to new situations, I watch Batman.

If nothing else, Batman being a little older than Clark can only add another facet to their film relationship. Our new Bruce may look down on Clark for his youth and use it as a focal point in what he believes to inform his inexperience. Frankly, the Superman we left at the end of MOS was more of a Superboy than a Superman. If we get a character arc out of the sequel (fingers crossed for at least one...), one could do much worse than seeing Superman grow into an actual man with the development of his moral compass and receipt of the seasoned Batman's respect.

@blackjack10 um bale was not an unknown, like at all.

@harleyquinn4737 To be fair Joe Manganiello was Big Dick Richie, i think he'd be ok. But i can dig Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as bats, I think there are better choices but, I wouldn't be upset if he was cast.

As long as its not Witwer, Hammer, Ackles, or any of these teen wolf or whatever the [frick] actors im good. Batman is a man, not a frat boy.

I don't think you're using the word hipster right, especially since we'd be lucky to get an actor like Ryan Gosling in any superhero role. You only have to watch Drive to see that he's quite talented.

@JokerFanHahaHA - Bale voiced Thomas, the teenage kid that shoots Kocoum.

@AC1 I have actually seen "Drive"... and I do think Gosling is a good actor, however, I don't think he's right for Batman and he's said in several interviews that "Drive" is the closest he wants to get to doing a superhero movie.
