Could he be in the running to replace Heath Ledger as the Clown Prince of Gotham in the next Batman film?

When MTV News caught up with Adrien Brody at SXSW, Academy Award winning actor confirmed earlier rumors that he was in consideration for the part of the Joker. Brody not only met with The Dark Knight's director, but was excited for a chance to play the part.

"I met Chris on that," he said regarding the role that eventually went to Heath Ledger. "Heath was tremendous in that, but yeah, I would've loved to have done that. It was an amazing role. Amazing."

When asked if any other comic book character roles have piqued his interest, Brody said, "It's not one specific thing that attracts me, it's.. bringing truth to something that had this impact on you in your youth, and basically growing up and have that inside of you — stored away with all the memories you have of it,"

Christopher Nolan has yet to reveal whether he will include the Joker in his next Batman installment. Since he has confirmed that it will be his last time directing the Caped Crusader, many fans hope he will give another actor the chance to step into the performance that won critical acclaim for Heath Ledger.

What do you think, would Adrien Brody bring a unique and welcome take to the Joker?

Why didn't Kate Holmes reprise her role as Rachel Dawes. And Robin Williams as the Joker? Really? I get that he's funny and he jokes a lot but seriously. Isn't he like 50 too.

I would say he would be my second choice after Crisin Glover to take over the role of the Joker.

@CorndogBurglar lol I think the Penguin and The Ventriloquist were the worst. I like the Riddler in the comics and The Batman show but not in the Batman: TAS, old Adam West show or in Batman Forever so I see where you are coming from.

Personally, I don't feel anyone will do the part justice after what Ledger did with the role. I know that is being short-sighted, but I am fine if I never see the Joker again in a Batman movie. *runs and hides from the backlash* lol

I heard that Katie Holmes turned it down because Tom Cruise told her to. and instead she went on to do Mad Money haha.

@Poni yeah I like that part about him but I always wondered as soon as Batman confronts him why does he not just grab Scareface and throw him in a wood chipper. lol

@Poni LOL he is Batman he doesn't really need a wood chipper he could just crush his little wooden skull with is bare hands that would have worked. :D

But OMG that would be a great first 10 min of the movie it would show what would happen to The Ventriloquist in the real world lol.

I think he would have been and could be a great joker but my number one choice is still Jude Law. He is one of the better actors around today and would fit into Heath's character very seemlessly. Check him out in Sleuth to see what I mean.

Brody has always been my favorite for the Joker. He's shown so much versatility with roles in movies like The Pianist, The Village, King Kong, and The Darjeeling Limited.

He was also up for the role of Spock!

I was thinking about back when Edward Nortan was not going to reprise his role and how He got it from Eric Banna... what if they kinda did it like they do James Bond. Every few movies just change actors. They could do the same thing with the joker.

The Problem with him playing Joker is that While he is a great actor, Heath Ledger portrayed him perfectly, but He just doesn't look like Ledger, I'm nt saying he couldn't pull it off they would just have to do some Avatar majic on his face, but I say save Trouble and Joseph-Gordon Levitt for the role, he looks exactly like Ledger in the face and body and he can play a pshycopath pretty good.

Multi @ To me, the "No...Hell No" option means "Hell No" to him playing the part. It doesn't suggest not having the Joker at all in the movie. There's a yes, maybe and hell no option for the actor playing the role and then the final option that it doesn't matter...bring the Joker back. That was and still is my interpretation of it.

I'm for no Joker at all. If there was a Joker, I can see him playing the part.

While we are on the subject of villans for The Bat, i know everyone has there opinion for who the next villain should be, but i was gonna ask for suggestions on who would play my pick. I would love to see Bane, but i have been having a hard time finding a Mexican actor that could suit him. Some one suavy but has a few pounds of muscle. I think Nolan could pull it off in his real world take on it. I was thinking some one like Antonio Banderas and then when he injects the serum He could put on a muscle suit like the Juggernaut. Any suggestions on actors for BANE?

I think that litte speech Joker gave at the end of TDK sums up the relationship of Batman and the Joker. They should have someone else play him. The Joker is immortal not Ledger's performace no matter how good it was. The Joker transcends any actor that has ever played or play him. My Fav villian is and has always been Ra's and I feel that Ra's and the Joker are both Batman's truest arch-nemesis's for different reasons. But you can have Batman with out Ra's but not with out the Joker. They complete each other.

@MULTI ...... DO YOU THINK THEY WILL SHOW MUCH OF WHO THEY GET TO PLAY THE JOKER ... AS HE WONT BE THE MAIN VILLAIN..AND YOUR THOUGHTS ON BATMAN HAVEING A NEW SUIT ...

I think Glover or Brody look the part and Glover is crazy, but the question to all is...If they bring back The Joker, should the actor imitate Ledger or go a different route, Glover would be the shit, but I don't think he could do The Joker like Ledger
