ARROW Showrunner Drops A Major Clue That Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke Is No Longer In THE BATMAN

Joe Manganiello was set to play Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Ben Affleck's version of The Batman, but it doesn't look like that will come to fruition in Matt Reeves' take on the Caped Crusader...

Collider recently interviewed Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim on the return of Manu Bennett's Deathstroke to the show and his larger presence in season 6.

Guggenheim commented, "It was a function of… you know, DC control these characters. We went through a period where DC was like, ‘We’ve got plans for Deathstroke that don’t include Arrow.’ That changed at the end of this year,” Guggenheim explained.

It doesn't take much to read between the lines and draw the conclusion that Matt Reeves' vision for The Batman doesn't include Deathstroke. When Reeves previously stated that he wanted a "detective, noir driven  Batman" many fans surmised that his take had no room for a psychical adversary like Slade.
For that matter, no one's entirely sure whether Deathstroke is in Justice League as the only clue is an upside down shot of Zack Snyder reviewing storyboards. There's some confusion as to whether that storyboard was for JL or if Snyder was assisting Affleck back when he still planned to direct himself in the DCEU's first solo film for Gotham's Caped Crusader.

I think it's more that they are fine with having characters on both tv and film, like how Superman was on Supergirl.
The Suicide Squad characters disappeared from Arrow because of the movie but they brought some back now.

@Beetleborg - Or that there are two Barry Allens...

@Himura - that happened before they said that they couldn't use the Suicide Squad characters because of the movie plans, leading to the notion of movie characters being off limits

@Beetleborg - well, the SS was back on TV for an episode.....most of them were killed off, right?

Well that sucks for Joe, he seemed to really be excited to play Deathstroke. I guess he could always play him down the line or Bane. Hell he could come over to the MCU and play Hercules in Thor 4.

@CurlyBill - lets at least wait for actual confirmation. i swear this is really pushing logic. it could just be that theyre more comfortable with multiple live action interpretations.

"When Reeves previously stated that he wanted a "detective, noir driven Batman" many fans surmised that his take had no room for a psychical adversary like Slade."

Isn't Deathstroke incredibly clever? A story with him could still have such elements even though it would be a bit surprising. Just my opinion though.

@Memorator - I don't think Deathstroke fits the "Noir" feel for what Matt Reeves is going for. I think they want dark and mysterious and not super soldier assassin.

Well, that's gotta suck: getting cast as a popular character and spending a lot of time prepping and being so excited to do it... only to find out that it's not gonna happen.

Deathstroke definitely deserves to be in a movie and Joe definitely deserves to play him. Hopefully he shows up in Justice League but I doubt it now.

@WruceBayne - Oh. I think he will be in Justice League. Snyder doesn't add a character if there is no narrative reason for their presence.

I imagine this is being done across the board. It seemed like they were done with Jerome as Suicide Squad was being promoted, but they still brought him back. Superman was in Supergirl, The Flash is still ongoing. They could still be using him in the DC Films Universe.

Should be in a Titans movie anyway. Still not a fan of his casting tho.
