BATGIRL Set Photo Reveals (Potentially Contradictory) Connection To WONDER WOMAN 1984

A new photo from the set of HBO Max's Batgirl makes reference to Wonder Woman 1984 in a way that may emphasise how different the DC Extended Universe is going to be after The Flash. Check it out!

Last night, we got a first look at Brendan Fraser suited up as Firefly on the set of Batgirl, and while this latest photo isn't quite as exciting, it may shed some light on the "new" DCEU.

Following the events of The Flash, reality will be rewritten and Michael Keaton's Batman will be this world's new Dark Knight. He's set to swoop into the HBO Max movie (potentially as a mentor to Barbara Gordon), and previous set photos have confirmed that Lex Luthor is still around, albeit in Belle Reve - the home of Amanda Waller's Task Force X - rather than Arkham Asylum.

So, big changes are coming, and a van belonging to Stagg Enterprises may contradict the events of Wonder Woman 1984. The company's founder, Simon Stagg, appeared in that movie and was played by Oliver Cotton. However, he seemingly ended up behind bars and his company was left in tatters after Maxwell Lord used the Dreamstone to put his rival out of business.

While this is just an Easter Egg, the company's name has even been changed and is now more in line with the comic books as Stagg Enterprises rather than Stagg Industries/STAGG. We're not sure if Warner Bros. has plans for the company and its CEO moving forward, but it's likely just a minor change in a DCEU that promises to look vastly different thanks to the Fastest Man Alive.

Batgirl is expected to arrive on HBO Max this December.

The less connections to WW 1984 the better.

Well this takes place after the flash and Wb is basically using that to just change whatever they want about the continuity, even if the flash time travelling doesn't make sense to change it.

Hopefully the changes will make more sense then the ones that were pulled in Star Trek or X-Men

Aside from the Batmen and Supergirl, the only thing I look forward to with The Flash us how it's gonna rewrite the timelime

I mean… a company name can alter and change hands alot in what? 35 years?

@Twenty23Three - I agree I don’t see how this contradicts anything

When it comes to wbdc we are use to it. They don't need to mention it anymore.

So they are still sold on having a Batman who is roughly 70 years old be the main/ sole Batman of this universe? WB making random and uncertain decisions since 2013.

@Arthorious - If The Batman proves to be as financially successful as WB hopes, there is no way on this Earth that Pattinson isn't the DCEU Batman by the time a new Justice League movie is announced, but as it stands now, Reeves wants it separate and there is no reason to attach Pattinson to something that is so fluid as the main DCEU right now, but "IF" Flash rights the DCEU ship, and Reeves' Batman becomes a billion dollar franchise, it's probably a done deal...

@BigGnVA - the question will then become, will Matt Reeves fight WB to keep his version of Batman separated from the DCEU even though WB wants it to be connected

@Arthorious - Why not? One of the entire points of establishing a multiverse is so they can try different things with the characters without having everything be connected. Don’t like this Batman? We have a different one right here! A talented filmmaker wants to do a stand alone movie? Sure! Don’t sweat the other stuff, do what you have in mind! It’s about not limiting themselves or the characters.

OT: Finn Wolfhard, or Sid the Sloth from Stranger Things, has joined the MCU. My guess? He’s playing Sid the Sloth again.

I wish they would build a new DC universe with Pattinson as Batman. Why have a 70 year old Batman as your main timeline Bats

@MeAreLegend - maybe it’s flash time line Batman is 70 in new time line Batman is younger

@MeAreLegend - at some point it absolutely can this isn't Nolans Bat, THERE IS HUMOR AND PULP it feels like Gotham ripped off the pages of the comics. I thought MULTIPLE times that I could quite easily see Kal El in this world

@McMurdo - correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t there someone in the film wearing a Superman t-shirt?

Whenever I hear there's continuity issues in a DCEU movie

But it's not contradictory at all. At the end Maxwell Lord renounces his wish to be the Dreamstone. So for all intents and purposes everything goes back to how it was before he made his wish. Including having Stagg retain his company and all his assets and not go to jail. Not only that but as someone else stated just because a company has the same name doesn't mean it's owned by the same people. It could have been sold off multiple times. Not only that but his children could be running it now. Furthermore, if Stagg was a middle aged man in 1984, in 2022 that same man would be at LEAST 88 years old at this point. (And I'm leaning younger on the "middle age" here to be generous.) Either his kids are running the show or someone else is. But I highly doubt he's still running the company that still bears his name as an 88 year old man.

I would say if you are a fan of DC and want them to get their act together, especially without recasting everyone, you're going to have to accept some contradictory stuff in order to clean up the mess that has been made over the last 10 years, and thankfully contradicting anything from WW84 is no big deal because that movie really has no connections to anything important, and can easily be handwaved away as some Earth-234 nonsense...

dagenspear - 3/2/2022, 4:07 PM
@BigGnVA - Why would I want it, particularly, handwaved?
Battabing
Battabing - 3/2/2022, 12:11 PM
Where's the contradiction, though? Does Lex Corp disappear just because Luthor gets arrested? I'm sure there's a board of trustees for these big companies like Stagg or Kord Industries that keep them running if the men behind the name are gone or unavailable (most of them are superheroes).
