BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER Promo Poster Offers A Moody New Look At Prime Video's Animated Dark Knight

Last year, we learned that HBO Max would no longer stream the Batman: Caped Crusader animated series, prompting Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves to take the show on the road and pitch it to other streamers.

Like Batgirl, it appears Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav didn't view the show as a major draw for subscribers. While that movie was scrapped, never to see the light of day, the executive would at least rather earn money from another platform buying this Batman animated series from them.

For a time, it appeared as if that might be it for Timm's long-awaited return to the DC Animated Universe, but Amazon Prime Video picked the show up for at least two seasons, adding Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family to its slate at the same time.

Now, a new look at all three of those has been revealed (via Toonado.com).

If what we see below is any indication, Batman: Caped Crusader will utilise a CG animation style that's in the vein of Batman: The Animated Series. It's great to see a new shot of the Dark Knight leaping into action and it looks very much in line what that classic TV show (unfortunately, we don't expect it to take place in the same reality).

DC Studios is creating its own slate of animated in-continuity projects for Max, so the fact this show is heading to Prime Video hopefully means it will be left free to continue beyond these first two seasons should it prove to be a success.

There's currently no word on a premiere date for the animated series, though it has been confirmed that the first season will consist of 10 episodes.

Take a closer look at these DC animated TV shows below.

@dracula - 3D can work out pretty well for animation...as long as they keep it looking 2D.

The Bruce Timm animated universe is my favorite DC ever... I love those shows even more than the comics. I hope this show is awesome so it hurts Zaslav lol.

Also, not a fan big fan of Matt Reeves... We shall see.

Batman:TAS and JLU are easily the 2 greatest comicbook cartoons ever, period.
Spiderman ('97?) and Xmen are 3rd and 4th.

@MotherGooseUPus - to each their own. I thought it was bounds ahead in quality, voice acting, writing, arcs, etc.

Also I forgot Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Animation wise, feel and tone, this will never ever ever be what BTAS was.

Not even the rest of the DCAU was what BTAS was.

Primarily because of the process. It would be deemed needlessly expensive to replicate that, in this modern digital age.

Having said all that, Timm, Brubaker, Tucker, Reeves, Abrams, Bernardin... talent up the hoo-har and out the he/her.
And those golden age bat-ears on the cowl? Yes to that. This could be very promising.

It won't be BTAS. But it might be the next best thing.

I hope this is more heavily shaded animation than CG. The Batman was a decent show but figured this was more Timm's style.
