BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN Writer And Producer On The Possibility Of Adapting DARK VICTORY (Exclusive)

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part 2 arrives next week and when we spoke to writer Tim Sheridan and producer Butch Lukic, we had to ask if they'd be interested in reteaming for an adaptation of Dark Victory.

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part 2 is set to be released on Digital on July 27 and Blu-ray on August 10, and after that stellar first instalment, there's a lot of excitement among fans about how the story will wrap up. However, those of you familiar with the source material will know that Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale also teamed up for a sequel to this story in the form of Dark Victory

Picking up with a number of plot threads and retelling Robin's origin story, the follow-up isn't quite as fondly remembered as its predecessor, but it has serious potential as an animated feature.

Talking to writer Tim Sheridan (who penned both these movies and the current Shazam! series from DC Comics), we asked if that's something he'd be interested in taking a crack at adapting.

"Well, let me tell you: no one has said anything to me about it! [Laughs]" he admitted. "If people buy these movies, maybe it's a possibility someday, and if that is the case, then boy, I would love to revisit these characters. I wish we could have the entire cast back. Sadly, we lost Naya [Rivera], but she's so stellar in both of these movies and we really get to see her shine even brighter in Part 2, so I'm very excited for people to be able to see that."

Earlier this week, we also spoke to veteran DCAU producer Butch Lukic, and while he was similarly unsure whether Dark Victory could happen, he sounds optimistic. "[It’s] something I wouldn’t mind doing down the line, but if it’s more determined within the next couple of years we could probably get that going. It could happen. It could either happen with me or someone else could take it and finish the story. Obviously, if these movies do well, I don’t see why not and why we couldn’t do that."

Batman remains perhaps the most popular subject of these DC animated features, so not bringing Dark Victory to the small screen feels like it would be a missed opportunity. Both parts of The Long Halloween feature a stellar voice cast, so that group reuniting for this sequel definitely be welcomed.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see, but buying these movies will certainly help make it a reality!
