Around this time last month, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran officially announced the first part of their new DCU slate, and it included a Batman reboot titled The Brave and the Bold.
Shortly after, Gunn confirmed that Ben Affleck - who had previously played the Dark Knight in Zack Snyder's films and was originally going to direct the movie that became Matt Reeves' The Batman - was in talks to helm one of the upcoming projects.
"We're working with Ben Affleck, who really wants to be a part of our architecture team, trying to bring things together. And he really wants to direct one of our projects and we're looking forward to him doing that."
This understandably led to speculation that Affleck may step behind the camera to bring a new take on the iconic hero to the screen, and a new rumor is now claiming that he is indeed set to direct The Brave and the Bold.
Not too much to go on here, but if Affleck really is set to helm an upcoming DCU movie, the planned Batman reboot would make the most sense.
The Brave and the Bold won't be a direct adaptation of the comic series of the same name, but it will introduce the "Bat-Family and follow Bruce Wayne's attempts to wrangle his new Robin, Damian Wayne, under control in a father/son story."
What do you guys make of this rumor? Do you think Affleck should be involved with this new take on Batman, or would he be better suited to a different character? Drop us a comment down below.
UPDATE: While Gunn hasn't addressed the rumor directly, he was tagged in a post reporting on it, and took the opportunity to respond to a being called a "professional liar."
Surely the ideal time to shut down the rumor if there was no truth to it, right?
