Former BATMAN Actor Christian Bale Lauds Choice Of Robert Pattinson As The Next Dark Knight

While promoting his upcoming film with Matt Damon and director James Mangold at TIFF, Christian Bale was asked to share his thoughts on the recent casting of Robert Pattinson as the new Batman.

Now that the script for Matt Reeves' The Batman is finally complete, more casting news should be announced in the coming months.

Rumors are already beginning to surface, starting with the more recent report that Reeves is envisioning his Catwoman to be more Eartha Kitt than Anne Hathaway. There's also been a recent report that Mahershala Ali was Reeves' first choice for the role of Commissioner Gordon before the news broke that he had already signed up to reboot Blade for Marvel Studios.

For now, the only known quantity is that Robert Pattinson will be the latest actor under the cowl, and at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, Variety caught up with former Dark Knight trilogy actor Christian Bale to get his assessment of Pattinson.

"Ah, good...good choice. He's interesting," said Bale as he also agreed with Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold's comment that Pattinson is a good actor.

As for the advice that he would give Pattinson for the role, Bale said it's the same thing that he previously told Ben Affleck, "Be able to pee by yourself. You don't feel much like a superhero when you can't take a piss by yourself."

Cameras are expected to begin rolling on The Batman in late-2019 in London, England for a June 25, 2021 release date.

Also, Christian Bale's one of the best actors working right now and Ford v. Ferrari looks incredible. Really excited for that

@MarkJulian - You're absolutely correct the best movies, but I agree with @GodzillaKart that he isn't the best Batman. I thought he was at the time because of the films themselves, but after watching them more recently the growl he had that didn't bother me at all when the trilogy came out bugs me quite a lot. Plus as much crap as Ben gets for his portrayal I feel he was a much better Batman in sub-par movies in comparison. I want a beast like Affleck was for Pattinson. I hope he can put on the muscles for the part.

Bale is still my favorite movie Batman interpretation, and I don't know if Pattison can change that.

Why even ask him that question? Interesting a topic as it may be, and obviously I get why they're asking it, but it just feels a tad rude asked in the blatant manner that it was (considering he has no involvement in the project).

@FamtasticFanboy

Dude still looks great for 42 despite the physical transformations. Can’t be healthy for him but, still, can’t deny he’s still got it at his age.

Tom Brady is an outlier. A freak of nature at his physical peak. On top of that he’s married to maybe the worlds most famous supermodels who no doubt keeps him young.

Can’t compare many 42 year old men to Tom Brady.

@MosquitoFarmer

They get asked this stuff all the time. Especially if it’s a legacy role like Spider-Man, Batman, or James Bond.

I think when Kilmer was first set to take over Batman all those years ago, the media asked Michael Keaton if he had anything to pass over to him, and I think he basically said something like "get plenty of talcom powder" lol

Those fan-castings....are really great.

@tmp3

Bill Hader as the Riddler is something I need.

@regularmovieguy - We're nine months into the year and Barry is still the best shit on TV all year (Chernobyl's a very close second though)

The bat-voice complaint people love to levy against him continues to be shallow and stupid.

Best Batman on-screen still.

@tmp3

How the hell are you able to properly reply?? Looks like some of the dudes here have mastered it. Boggles my mind.

As for Chernobyl and Barry...

They were both top tier television 👌🏻 Hope they take all the awards.
