JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX And MADAME WEB Sweep This Year's Razzie Award Nominations

Ahead of the Academy Award nominations (which were recently delayed), the nominations for the 45th annual Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced, and several comic book movies were... recognized!

As this year's awards season gets underway, Hollywood prepares to celebrate the very best - and worst - that 2024 had to offer.

The Academy Award nominations were recently delayed due to the California wildfires, but we do have the nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards, and several superhero/comic book-based movies were "honored" in a number of categories.

Not too surprisingly, Warner Bros.' Joker sequel picked up the most nominations, with stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga up for Worst Actor, Todd Phillips for Worst Director, and more. Sony Pictures' Madame Web was a close second with noms in six categories, tied with Megalopolis and Reagan.

Lionsgate's ill-fated The Crow reboot picked up two.

Nominees were chosen were via emailed ballots to 1,202 Razzie members from 49 States and about two dozen foreign countries who chose five top contenders in each of nine categories.

The Razzies began back in 1981, and the Oscars parody show was seen as a bit of harmless fun for many years (Halle Barry even showed up to collect her Worst Actress award for Catwoman), but the annual "celebration" of the worst cinema has to offer has come in for a lot of backlash over the past few years.

@ThorArms - He's alright, bit too over the top in some parts like when he's doing the impersonation in the court room, it got to the point were he actually got annoying. Not the kinda performance that breaks or saves a film though.

@IronMan616 - What's ironic is that, in your snark, you may have uncovered both the issue and the nonissue. Despite a few race and "diversity hires," Hollywood is still overwhelmingly and predominantly white—hence why a little diversity was needed in the first place.

Friendly reminder: 78% of the top theatrical releases feature white leads, and 60% of all Hollywood roles are filled by white individuals. That leaves the remaining 40% for all other races to share.

Fascinating stuff.

So if what you’re arguing is 60% whites in films is accurate, cool, but then why are people mad about “perfect” representation numbers wise?

I am surprised Rebel Moon did not get more nominations. If I am being honest, Joker and Kraven were better films all around which is a microscopically high bar. The worst film I saw last year was Werewolves.

Borderlands also got 6 nominations so technically it tied with Joker. If any film on this list deserves the win, it’s that monstrosity. Joker 2 has some great cinematography and Hildur’s score even for those who hate it to enjoy, and Madame Web is a fun kind of bad where you can at least laugh at it. Borderlands tried to be funny and was just horrendous to both the eyes and ears.
