If anything has become certain over the past week, it is that the Todd Phillips Joker film is actually happening. On the other hand, the last news that has came out of The Batman was that the first act's draft has been turned in, revolving around a younger Bruce Wayne.

During an episode of The Superhero News Show, Mark Hughes, a writer for Forbes, broke that discussions have been made about setting the two films in the same universe. Hughes emphasizes that these ideas are in the very early stages, and though it is a rumor, he was approached with the information by two different sources. At this point, there is still a strong possibility that this may not come to light.

If these ideas do come through, Warner Bros. would have their hands on not one, but two DC Cinematic Universes. Though it may be cool, it will challenging for audiences to keep track of the titles and their respective settings. General audiences have a hard enough time understanding when films like Rogue One and Solo take place within the Star Wars canon. It would be even more challenging to juggle several iterations of characters in theaters during the same timeframe.

I give dc points for trying something to do something new with the joker origin film, but its the wrong thing to do. Instead of doing an R rated joker film, just do an R rated Batman film that's as dark as The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en and have Batman tracking down Arkham criminals our a serial killer in Gotham. If they made an R rated Batman film not only would it give us something we've never seen in a Batman film it would also allow Matt Reeves to explore the darker themes of Batman.

@CurlyBill - The frustrating thing is that everyone, even the directors of the 1960’s Batman film always try to make him an action hero. It's fine. He’s got his Batmobile with his explosives and rubber bullets, etc., but he was described as a weird creature of the night. Who terrorizes the cowardly and superstitious criminal element. Gotham is Haddonfield, Camp Crystal Lake, Haven, and Transylvania all in one. The citizens are either the monsters or potential victims. Batman dresses up as a monster to fight the monsters and ensure the potential victims become survivors.

You're right. Filmmakers and studios need to stop thinking James Bond or RoboCop and start thinking “Psycho”, “Silence of The Lambs”, “Se7en”, Universal Monsters, “The Shining”, etc. Batman should be more of a horror movie franchise than anything else.

@SisterSunday52 - For all the flak Tim Burton gets for his Batman films if there is one thing he absolutely nailed it was the creature of the night aspect. What I've always liked about Batman is that who ever Bruce Wayne was going to be died with his parents that night in the ally, he is Batman and Bruce Wayne is the mask. I think the only way to explore those themes is by an R rating and if a filmmaker could be allowed to do that we would get an outstanding Btamn film.

Dear Warner Bros.,

Keep “The Batman” in the DC Films Cinematic Universe where it belongs. You have a Batman. Of you have to de-age him because Ben Affleck truly doesn't want to play him, then go ahead and do that. Otherwise, just continue where you left off. Caesar’s arc in “War For The Planet Of The Apes” isn't much different from Batman's arc in “Batman v Superman”, so he's already in the right mindset. Also, stop abandoning different concepts because they're “too dark”. Batman lives in a practical city of demons, monsters and ghosts, and he dresses up as a monster to combat them. “Too dark” is just right for Batman.

If this story, more than likely turns out to be false, then:

Dear Movie News personalities,

Can you please just do us all a favor and say “We know about as much as you at this point”, cover stuff that is actually confirmed, and only cover this when there's legitimate news from legitimate sources about it?

Thank You

Watch this new universe look more like the real DC universe, because the DCEU Zack Snyder said was inspired by Elseworld stories. So wouldn't it be funny if this universe spawned a Justice League universe where Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter were founding members.

It might be a little confusing, but it would be interesting to see every other year DC switches what movie universe you see on screen.

We've hit peak bad ideas.

Like even the half-baked internet rumor bad ideas are indistinguishable in their badness from the officially announced bad ideas.

There is no diamond. It's just rough. Rough all the way down.

So, if The Batman is part of another universe (be in the same one as the joker movie or not), that should mean Ben Affleck would still be Batman in the DCEU...right?...right?! I mean, are they really that dumb to have a new batman in this universe and then another one for the DCEU? Maybe it is to not have Affleck having to carry a whole movie himself and only bring him for JL and such?...Im not holding my breath for that tho, this is WB, nothing surprises me anymore.

Man .. people just love to be in attack mode

I'm of the mind that until something is announced or confirmed from the mouths of DC/WB .. I'm not going to jump all over it and rip it apart.

All these rumors etc, what's been actually backed and confirmed by WB/DC? Not a whole lot .. yet here everyone is .. with their pitchforks ready to run DC/WB out of town lol

Just soft reboot the DCEU. Don't create two universes. Keep Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, and Flash just ditch the rest and start fresh. It would suck to see two separate universes. If we are gonna do that just go back to individual films and ditch the shared universe idea. It's so much easier that way. Also we don't have to get rid of stuff that works.
