Michael Keaton Would Play BATMAN Again ... For Tim Burton

Michael Keaton played the Caped Crusader/Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton's Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992). Now the Mr. Mom actor says that he would reprise the role, but only if Tim Burton was to direct. Come share your thoughts.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Michael Keaton ("Birdman") was asked if he would entertain the idea of playing Batman again.said, “If it was Tim Burton directing? In a heartbeat. Tim, in the movies, really invented the whole dark-superhero thing. He started everything, and some of the guys who have done these movies since then don’t say that, and they’re wrong.”

The other day I mentioned how Tim Burton and Michael Keaton were originally planning to do a third Batman film together, but Warner Bros. didn't care for the dark tone of Batman Returns and had Burton replaced with Joel Schumacher. Not long after Keaton also walked away from the project and $15M paycheck. He was replaced by Val Kilmer ("Top Gun"). “I hadn’t been stupid about it," Keaton explained. "I always knew it was a big machine with a big studio and corporation behind it. But the simple answer was, it wasn’t any good. I was nice. I said to them, ‘This is a really interesting character with a dual personality.’ I tried to make them understand. But when somebody says to you, ‘Does it have to be so dark?... I thought, are we talking about the same character? So finally I just said no.”

In the second of the blockbuster Batman films, the physically deformed criminal genius The Penguin threatens Gotham City--and, helpless, the entire city can only pray that Batman Returns. Only Batman (Michael Keaton) can defend the city from total chaos as The Penguin (Danny DeVito) lays twisted waste to a great metropolis. Meanwhile, the Dark Knight may have met his equal in the lethally lithe Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer)--only he doesn't know if she is feline friend ... or foe.

Actors: Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito & Michelle Pfeiffer
Director Tim Burton * Screenwriters Susan Montford & Sam Hamm

Keaton was good, but nowhere as near as Bale's performance. My opinion though.

Damn, I'd still love for him to just make a cameo in one of the films. Cannot WAIT for Birdman though.

Yeah..... that's not happening. Ben Affleck is going to be our cinematic Batman for the next 10 years at least

I think it would be a smart move on DC/Warner Bros. part to make this a reality. Get Tim Burton back on board, and and have Zack Snyder on as an Executive Producer or a consult of some sort. It might mess with the chronology of their cinematic universe, but that doesn't really exist anyway

Batman Beyond with Keaton wouldn't have enough Keaton, so no to another. Plus...Burtons work has changed too much over the years. Don't know if the movie would be like Batman Returns (Awesome) or Alice in wonderland (Not so awesome).

wouldve been the greatest coup ever if they did The Dark Knight Returns with him in the role... BvS killed that possibilty.... but maybe they can get bale to do the remake in 25 years

My only problem with Keaton was his stiffness. The suit he donned didn't allow him much movement. It might be just the time as the suit has been much improved since then.

Tim Burton's a hack. Every single movie is exactly the same. There... I said it. Quit gushing over the guy now.

Bale's Batman > Keaton's Batman

Keaton was throwing guys off buildings, lighting the place up with mg's, setting guys on fire, blowing guys up, etc....

Not Batman. It'd be more accurate to call that Tim Burton's Batman though. Nothing wrong with Keaton himself's portrayal.

It's so funny how WB hated the first two films for being so dark, and then they changed it so it can be campy. Lmao. Then Nolan came along and made it "dark" and now all they want is "dark". Lmao I can't.

@BatzFTWfan

Bale's voice was perfect in Begins

I still enjoy the Burton films but every time I watch them I can't help but feel the only reason Batman is in them is because he has to be.
