New BATMAN: THE TELLTALE SERIES Downloadable Content Gives Both Seasons A NOIR Makeover

Telltale is back, but not in the way you would expect. As fans await for a third season of the developer's reimagining of the dark knight, they now have a brand new way to experience the first two entries.

For a while, it looked as though fan favourite developer Telltale Games was gone forever after going bankrupt in 2018. But they are back with a vengeance, and they are here to give fans a new way to experience Batman: The Telltale Series and its sequel Batman: The Enemy Within. Now available on X-Box, PC, and Playstation 4, Batman: The Telltale Series - Shadows Edition gives the two seasons a gritty crime noir aesthetic and remastered graphics.

The series reimagines Bruce Wayne in his early years as Gotham City's dark avenger, in the era where the city's criminal underworld is being phased out and supervillains begin to rise. From his childhood friend Oz Cobblepott becoming the dastardly Penguin, to his allies Harvey Dent and John Doe falling into insanity as Two-Face and the Joker, to the city's original supervillain the Riddler resurfacing with a cabal on his side, there is no shortage of classic Batman rogues to challenge the player's resolve.

Step into the shadows and experience the twisted world of Telltale’s Batman in a way that brings the fractured persona of the Dark Knight and the City of Gotham to life in a sinister, new way. Enhanced with hand recolored gameplay and remastered textures, the Telltale Batman Shadows Edition brings all ten Telltale Batman episodes across two seasons into one, complete game while staying true to the spirit of the Dark Knight’s rich, visually compelling history. For existing Batman: The Enemy Within and Batman: A Telltale Series owners, the Batman Shadows Mode is available for purchase as a downloadable add-on.

This was actually released on the X-Box and PC last month, but no one ever bothered to cover it. I decided to wait until it hit Playstation 4 and then cover it myself.

Would love to see a black and white batman movie, maybe with the stylized look of sin city

@BlackIceJoe - I cannot [frick]ing believe this. This shook me to the core, and I'm only passive about basketball. But damn. Life is so short, and we all got an end date. Cherish the people you have now, because no one is promised tomorrow.

I enjoyed the Telltale Batman games more than I thought I would but I'm glad we're getting back to proper Batman games now with Arkham Legacy hopefully coming out in the next year

@Nightwing1015 -
From the various reports and teases that WB Montreal has released (with the Court of Owls, League of Assassins, and Order of Saint Dumas), it's apparently going to be a "Capture the Knight" spin-off game and not a traditional Arkham installment.

To be honest, I'm actually glad the main Arkham series is over. The series took a dip in quality with Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight, and Origins completely destroyed the timeline as far as continuity is concerned. It was also getting repetitive and needs innovation. Not to mention that Jason Todd is already ruined in the Arkhamverse, going from a mass murderer to an objectivist Punisher-style vigilante (which makes zero sense).

They needed to end the main Arkham series while its reputation was still intact. There are other DC characters that deserve the Arkham treatment more, and I would rather they make a new open world Batman series with Kevin Conroy than Batman: Arkham 4. The only upside to continuing the main Arkham series is the title.

@Darkknight2149 - I know it may be a soft reboot but if it has the same core gameplay, I consider it an Arkham game. But yeah fresh continuity could be exciting.

Also, Origins was great despite continuity errors. I also enjoyed Knight in spite of the tank battles. I agree those games weren't as perfect as the others but they're still better than most games that come out these days.

@Nightwing1015 -
Yeah, there hasn't been a bad Arkham game yet (just certain elements that didn't work). I just don't want this series to go downhill now that Rocksteady moved on, like the Silent Hill series and others that took a hit after 3-4 great installments.

The Batman open world games definitely need to find ways to stay fresh. Additionally, a lot of us also want DC to give other characters the Arkham treatment, like Superman and The Flash. A Green Arrow or The Question game from Naughty Dog Studios would be awesome.

@Darkknight2149 - Yeah I think that's what Montreal will do after this game. Their mission statement is creating AAA DC games anyway so we should get those games in the next decade.

Additionally, Rocksteady's next game is rumoured to be Justice League so that'll be interesting if true.
