Riddler Rumor REAL? Stubborn Sun Reporter Stands By Story!

Riddler Rumor REAL? Stubborn Sun Reporter Stands By Story!

Yesterday fans went nuts over the latest in silly rumors about Batman 3. In a nutshell, a British paper said Eddie Murphy would be the Riddler, and Shia LaBeouf is playing Robin. Well, even though everybody around the globe laughed it off as another in a long line of Bull@#%*!, the reporter is sticking to his story. Find out why he's so sure inside...

From The Guardian...

But why pontificate on just how unlikely it is that Murphy will ever don The Riddler's question-mark-emblazoned emerald spandex, when you can go straight to the source? The Sun's Gordon Smart told me this morning that he was standing by his story on the basis that it had come from a reliable contact – one responsible in 2005 for revealing to the world the then-unlikely casting of Daniel Craig as 007.

"Everyone had a crack at us when we published that one," said Smart. "I was almost laughed out of conference that day, but it turned out to be spot on. I wish I had had a bet on it."

Off the record, Smart revealed his precise source, and if we are to believe him, it would appear a pretty reliable one. It follows, then, that the rest of yesterday's story might also be falsehood-free.

So, on that basis, prepare yourself for a Dark Knight sequel in 2010 (despite the fact that Nolan hasn't even officially signed on yet for a third film) titled Gotham, featuring Murphy, LaBeouf and Bale, with Rachel Weisz as Catwoman. Gird your loins, also, for a cliffhanger denouement in which Wayne Towers is hit by a blast which may or may not have offed the Batman.

Okay, so because he says his source was right about Craig... that makes him "reliable"??? But Goyer himself as well as Nolan himself and not to mention WB/DC themselves say the contrairy. But hey he's reliable so i guess he's right! Wonder if he has a crytal ball, a belly dancer dress and a shady tent?

Well if he swears he's telling the truth then it's obviously true.

Nolan specifically said he'd never have robin in his batman movies, therefore, bullshit.
And you know they're gonna want Nolan, seeing the money dark knight made

Well, in my opinion, Nolan needs more [racial slur]. Murphy would make a spectacular Riddler. I don't know what you players be complainin' about. Aside from that, let's stick more black in. Halle Berry was the best Catwoman I have ever seen. She needs to make a return. Also, if Michael Caine decided to die or not return as Alfred, we can have Michael Clarke Duncan take his place. I think he would do a swell job after seeing his performance in Sin City as Manute and the best rendition of Kingpin in the smash-hit Daredevil. If Tupac Shakur is in fact alive, I think that he would be Bale's perfect replacement. If Tupac isn't available (i.e. he is actually laying down in a grave with .45 bullets in him), then we could always use Nelly. He's the biggest pimp ever seen. And who lamer to pick for Robin than Justin Timberlake? Nelly and Justin would be the most ambiguously gay duo ever seen. In fact during scenes where they weren't in cape form, they could have a dance off. It would be neat to see the implementation of a ghetto stomp the yard in Gotham. Gotham needs a little more ghetto.

well if we're gonna start making up casting stories, here's my pick (lol)....

Robin - Carrot Top
Riddler - William Shatner
Catwoman - Roseanne Barr

If they want to tease us with Bane, then I nominate none other than Ray Romano! lol

I can actually see Eddie as Riddler. I've seen plenty of comics pull off dark sinister roles before. The main part of this story that screams "bullshit" to me is Robin! Bale has openlysaid he will walk away if Robin joins the story, and rightly so! It doesn't matter how well cast Robin may be I just can't see him fitting into the Batman story Nolan has given us.

Altho Carrot Top would be a giggle!

Bale refused to do another Batman if the Robin character was going to be in it. So I dont believe this one bit. Also, Nolan said this was going to be his last Batman....HANDS DOWN. Because he didnt want the series to turn out like the old films. AND THANK GOD FOR THAT.

I dont think Nolan will go out with Eddie Murphy, the creative genius behind Norbit haha, playing the Riddler. This story is B.S.

Can you just imagine William Shatner as the Riddler.... Uh... Batman... riddle me this.... riddle me......... that! who's afraid.... of the big black.......bat.

Honestly.. I believe Eddie Murphy could pull off the Riddler but it would be more intelligent, darker character than Jim Carrey's. The kind that they had on the last animated The Batman was good.

Yet still.. Bill Shatner gets my vote! lol

i don't think anyone can take those claims seriously, but the fact that nolan hasn't signed to direct isn't the deal maker. regaurdless of his attachment i think something will still be made. the first two made too much money. it's just a matter of if he comes back or someone else does it. let's cross our fingers for the former

I'm sorry but just because the guy was right about Daniel Craig doesn't mean the information is factual. We're talking about a TABLOID NEWSPAPER. Just because they were right about one thing doesn't mean they are right about this too. PLUS the 007 franchise isn't nearly as secretive as Batman. If they don't have a director, they certainly don't have a cast so how could they possibly know anything on that topic? The only thing we can count on is that Eddie Murphy and Johnny Depp are donating their frozen sperm to Angelina Jolie so that she can give birth to a child who will be born with actual superpowers and will likely play his own mother in the Jolie biopic which will air on the hallmark channel after Jolie dies during her 37th childbirth because everything is just so stretched out down there that when the baby sensed itself falling out it grabbed onto some of his mom's internal organs for support and ended up tearing out a bunch of shit. I got this from a reliable source so just trust me.

Please say it isn't so!!
The Sun is a crappy "news" paper read by half wits and chavy scum.
No way would WB risk such a turkey????
Plus Bail himself said he would walk if Robin was introduced.
I think this is just bait to try and weed some real info from Nolan & Co.

Acerimmer1:
I disagree. Most people love to downplay the potential of the Riddler, as well as Robin. Granted, I'll agree that by-and-large, they have not been given the proper treatment over the course of the last few decades, and their potential as story vehicles severley underused!
I think the idea of using these characters has a LOT of appeal, IF done correctly!
I highly disagree with the notion that the Riddler is "the poor man's Joker", because, well... What's the joker but an anarchist in a clown suit? Sure, clowns are scary, but what the hell?
NOOOOWWWW... If given the proper treatement, you can take that "scary clown" achetype and do some really interesting things. It's all a matter of intuitive/creative storytelling, and keeping an open mind.
(*Unlike Hyson, who obviously needs a lesson in using one's "open mind.")

Gordon Smart can say what he wants to say, but David S. Goyer has said in a recent interview with BatmanOnFilm.com has said every rumor that has been heard or said is BS. He said there hasn't been any talks about a 3rd movie, and there hasn't been a story about a 3rd Batman Movie. David S. Goyer wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. This story that Gordon Smart wrote in the Sun is just trying to have 5 minutes fame. I'm sure Chris, and Johnathan Nolan, along with David S. Goyer are laughing at this clown, when they heard this.

Amjac1-"John Malkovich for Riddler! Ellen Page for Robin! Tina Fey for Catwoman!

Dude, I thought about it and you are totally right. John Malkovich would be a perfect Riddler, and what a great actor. Ellen Page is a wonderful actress, and she does have that fruity young [wiener] Grayson look about her, I think it would be shocking but she could pull it off, definately. I don't know about Tina Fey though, not a fan, and she is definately not the Catwoman I picture.

saintc - 12/19/2008, 6:46 PM
Eddie Murphy sucks...period. It doesn't matter if he's black, and it doesn't warrant racial stereo type comments from red necks who fear the future. Eddie Murphy should not be Riddler because he's done, and terrible, and not because he's black. I gurantee you if they some how squeezed Denzel, Cuba, Larenz Tate, or Terrance Howard into a Batman movie it would not dissapoint...although I do not know what character they would be. Lucious Fox is in TDK, didn't that just make that movie so terrible, oh no, the blacks are taking over. that's just ignorant, open ur minds people, it's 2008, one nation, and eventually one race, sorry red necks....

NAH, this ain't real one bit, the british tabs are a whole lot worse than their american counterparts..

why wb will hire murphy to play the riddler if he is indeed in this is beyond me..

there is no script written yet, let alone nolan and co resigning..

nolan has stated no robin at all..

besides nolan likes hiring foreign actors/actresses to be in the batman movies so why would wb hijack his hiring process and force someone on him knowing full well nolan has done grand great job

i dont think they will put the riddler in the next film for the same reason gambit wasn't in X-men (so im told) which is because his character is too much like another already in the film. Gambit's character was too much like wolverine, and the riddler, if played the way people here are suggesting, would be too much like the joker. I understand why people, including myself, would want another joker, but it would be a poor substitute.

also would like to throw out, like in the Miller comics, that robin, if included, be a girl....

just a thought.... still dont think robin would be a good idea though!!!

all gonna be about two-face in the next film
saintc
saintc - 12/19/2008, 7:27 PM
You are definately right about the Riddler character samd, and that's what I was talking about earlier. Amjac said Ellen Page would be a good Robin, and I think that would definately be true. I don't think the Riddler works for the serious tone of Nolans work. Only monumental, and deep characters. While the Riddler can and has been deep....he's a dude with question marks all over his costume and he has a question mark staff....How serious can that character be in a live action movie? I think Hush would work... maybe Bane but they would have to spin it to make it more realistic. Penguin might work, but other than that... I don't know what other villian would work. Frankly, I think Nolan is done with the Batman films. I firmly do not beleive there will be another Nolan Batman film. Where else can he go with a realistic approach?

You know, a few months before the first teaser trailer for the Dark Knight came out, I read a blurb in a magazine that said Heath Ledger was gonna play the Joker...When I saw that, I thought "Ah, S**t! This movie's gonna suck!"
Then I saw the trailer with Heath as the Joker and I thought "Damn, this looks pretty cool"
Then I saw the movie and I was like "Oh my God! Nolan is a GENIUS and Heath is THE JOKER"

...But freakin Eddie Murphy! I mean come on...that HAS to be bulls**t!
