THE BATMAN: Get A First Look At The New Bat-Symbol Trademark Filed By DC Comics

With DC FanDome fast approaching, we have a first glimpse of the new Bat-Symbol that's set to adorn the various merchandise that'll be available closer to the release of Matt Reeves' The Batman...

Matt Reeves' The Batman is expected to have a substantial presence at this weekend's DC FanDome event (we may even see a trailer), but in the meantime, we have a little something to keep the Bat-hype levels up.

DC Comics recently filed a trademark for the new Bat-Symbol, and we have a first look at it right here.

As you can see, the design is pretty much identical to the metal logo we saw on The Dark Knight's (Robert Pattinson) chest in those initial promo images released earlier this year.

This trademark is expected to be used for all manner of tie-in merchandise that'll be coming our way closer to the release of the movie, including books, comics, toys, fanny packs and gardening gloves (they're a thorough bunch those merch guys).

You can check out the full application here. Many thanks to BrianConroy.com for the heads up.

The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and more. The movie is expected to resume production soon, and is set to be released next October.

The bottom is too flat. Just a nitpick I guess, the logo is the least important thing.

@Nightwing1015 - I mean, his whole superhero manifesto is 'I wear logos! I throw logos! I fly logos!' So I feel like your criticism is fair.

Err could be worse, i guess.

The "gun" theory is the only thing that makes it interesting to me.
Assuming they're right of course.

@Doomsday8888 - what is the gun theory? I haven't heard it yet. Also how do I post in comments without just replying?

Look at his chest.
They say the Bat is made outta the gun that killed his parents.

Also just scroll down until you see a white box and just type your comment there and press post comment.

So they've stuck a batarang to his chest.

He'll probably use it like Superman's "S" in Superman 2.

@marvel72 - i do prefer that to the whole gun theory. Not only does it not look like a gun, and surely a gun would've been melted down to make that anyway, the idea of making the logo an extra weapon really makes sense for who batman is as a character. While batman does have his sentimental side, his practicality trumps all of that. It really doesnt make sense for him to potentially interfere with his ability to perform in the field just so his logo is the gun that killed his parents. The only time he ever sacrifices practicality is with theatricality, making him appear more monstrous and scary. And the only way that can work with the gun theory is if hes admitting to people his parents were shot dead, which just gives more clues he's bruce wayne. But with it being a batarang, and one you can't immediately tell is a batarang, has many benefits on the job. Like if he's been captured by villains and stripped of his belt. They might not think the logo is anything but a logo.

Looks ok... I’m getting some Joker vibes from this movie. I feel like mental illness will be explored for Bruce Wayne in a “realistic” manner.

It works, excluding the silver from B&R I think TDK and RISES had the worse use of the bat symbol, on the chest at least because I really like the Nolan bat logo but on the suit I didn’t like how it was placed on his chest.

@manofillintent1 - Same. My biggest nitpick is slapping a small black logo on a black suit. What's the point of having it there in the first place?
