Updated box office numbers for The Batman are in, and the movie ended up making $66 million this weekend for a ten-day haul of $238.5 million. That's a phenomenal result, and with little in the way of competition, the Caped Crusader has plenty of time to continue dominating the box office over the next couple of weeks.
Matt Reeves' DC Comics adaptation has hit $224.7 million overseas to take its current global cume to a whopping $463.2 million. Now, it should hit the $500 million mark in a matter of days!
That should happen by Thursday, and some analysts believe The Batman's eventual worldwide total will be somewhere around the $900 million mark (remember, it's yet to open in China). While $1 billion is certainly possible, the fact that the movie hits HBO Max next month means ticket sales in the U.S. - as well as piracy there and across the rest of the world - could slow its momentum somewhat.
Either way, The Batman is a bona fide hit and these results are a strong indication Warner Bros. will embrace this standalone franchise as the key destination for the Dark Knight on the big and small screens moving forward. Michael Keaton, however, is set to return as Batman in the DCEU.
"Delivering the definitive take on the World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman is a sweeping, cinematic masterpiece that’s both DC’s best film and one of the most captivating, relentless, and unforgettable comic book movies ever made," we said in our review last month.
