THE BATMAN: Matt Reeves' DC Comics Adaptation Has An Undeniably Perfect Working Title

The Batman director Matt Reeves recently unveiled a first look at Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit, and now a set photo confirms the movie's working title. The question is, does it reveal any details?

In a set photo from The Batman which has started doing the rounds online, we get to see the chair Robert Pattinson sits on while working on the DC Comics adaptation and, more importantly, the movie's working title! As you can see below, that title is "Vengeance." Sounds pretty ominous, right?

As you might expect, fans are already going nuts wondering what this might mean, but it's worth noting that one of the most popular quotes from Batman: The Animated Series was, "I am vengeance! I am the night! I am Batman!"

There's also a 2001 video game with that name and the colour red was used on its cover, but it feels like a stretch to link the two projects. In case you're wondering, though, the plot of the game saw Batman investigating the mysterious circumstances of the apparent death of his arch-nemesis, the Joker, before finding himself entangled in a web of his other villains' schemes.

The "Vengeance" title was reported a while back, but has now obviously been confirmed.

Do you guys have any theories about this moniker for The Batman? Share your thoughts below, and keep checking back here for updates on the movie as they continue rolling in.

Yes, that does appear to be stitching on Batman's mask and it's oddly reminiscent of what Adam West wore in the classic TV series.

With no ears on display, it's fair to say this doesn't look very Batman-esque. If you imagine them, though, then it's easy enough to see what Reeves is going for with this take on the hero.

Unfortunately, unfavourable comparisons to a gimp mask could also be made...

The nose on the mask isn't overly pronounced, and that's probably why there have been so many comparisons to Daredevil.

However, what we're really interested in looking at in this shot is that collar (which appears to be connected to the hero's cape). It's something completely different to what we've seen in the past and easy to see why those rumours claimed that Lee Bermejo's work was an influence here.

Something everyone seems to love about this costume is that it appears to be heavily armoured. It's an awesome look for the Caped Crusader, and one that worked wonderfully in the Arkham series of video games.

It looks like a heavy suit, and one which will definitely protect Batman while he fights criminals in Gotham City.

There's also a "homemade" feel of sorts to the suit which definitely makes it feel like Bruce Wayne has made this suit alongside Alfred Pennyworth rather than with Wayne Industries' tech.

Now, a lot of fans have theorised that the Bat-symbol on the World's Greatest Detective's suit is possibly a Batarang that he's able to remove and throw at his enemies.

It's a fun and undeniably plausible theory, but we have another idea about what significance it has to the hero in this particular take on the iconic DC Comics character.

Look closely at that "logo" and it actually looks like it's been made from parts of a gun.

Comic book fans will be all too aware that the Dark Knight hates those (Ben Affleck's version of the hero using them was a real issue for fans), and it would make sense for that symbol on his chest to have been made from the gun Joe Chill used to kill his parents.

It's also pretty twisted and dark, but Bruce Wayne isn't the most stable of people...

Robert Pattinson isn't a huge guy, but this armoured Batsuit appears to have given the impression that he is, and there's no denying that he appears to be a physically imposing version of the hero.

It's a shame we don't get a better look at the cape but it seems to be comic accurate.

@BlackBeltJones - Were any of those games in continuity with the show?

@tmp3 - The comics and games of the DCAU are all relatively "canon" as not too many things contradict with them. The voices were the same

@BlackBeltJones - I believe it was yes. Comics too.

@HubbleFunk - I still don't understand the logic in that storyline, in so much as, if those people know that much about Wags, they'd have to know that he's a lot more that simply Axe's COO. Those two have a very old, special bond. To try and do something that humiliating to Wags, you'd have to think Axe would then be willing to commit quite the resources in making them pay.

@CaptCoulson - Agreed. There's a lot of logic bending in Billions which has just been ramped up season after season to a point where it feels like pretty far removed from season 1.
CaptCoulson
CaptCoulson - 2/19/2020, 9:54 AM
@HubbleFunk - yeah I've become kind of ambivalent about the show. For one thing the point they've got to now with the use of pop culture references for characters' behavior, it's like beyond parody now, they can barely go three straight scenes without dropping at least one reference.
Also looking at the whole arc of the series, for what's happening now, the Chuck going full on AFTER Axe again now after an apex of them joining forces so much, if this wasn't the last season it's getting dangerously close to being repetitive. Yet I fear it's not, if this was to be the last season they'd surely have already announced that.

@CaptCoulson - Same, I still enjoy the show (love the characters) but it's kinda become a heightened parody of what it once was. I believe Sorkin said a couple of years ago that he had a 6 season arc outlined so I'm assuming this will be the penultimate season. The show was at its peak at the end of season 2 for me, that had a great twist at the end. The season 4 misdirection between Connerty and Chuck I could see coming a few episodes before the reveal. A side effect of the show becoming over the top is that you believe anything ridiculous can happen and so it's harder to land those twists in a meaningful way.

CaptCoulson - 2/20/2020, 5:56 AM
@HubbleFunk - forgive me as I can't help but giggle a little bit when I see you accidentally said Sorkin instead of Koppelman lol (I can relate, I've been a massive Aaron Sorkin devotee since A Few Good Men)
Yeah it was a curious sort of catch 22, the way season 4 finished up, because it sure as hell felt like the large majority of people I talked to had the "twist" well on their mind long before the finale. And while one might think it being that obvious wasn't a great sign, it was still probably the best case scenario, because if that twist hadn't of happened, it pretty much could've only meant that these main couple of characters were devastatingly stupid, if they'd really been trying to do those things.
It's funny though for as wavering as I've been on the show itself, but Brian Koppelman is very active on twitter and often does these impromptu Q&As, he's very friendly and cool and I'm one of several fans that I've seen him respond to several times over the last couple years (guy who plays Connerty has been very friendly to for that matter). but I have no interest in being one of those people who goes out of their way to tag him in a tweet just to point out how I feel like his show's dropping the ball.

Pattinson looks like Nite Owl in that costume. Actually, he'd make a good Daniel Dreiberg. Oh well...

tmp3 - 2/18/2020, 12:38 PM
@clornelas - He's too conventionally attractive for Dreiberg. You need a schlubby dude like John Cusack for that role. Patrick Wilson was too conventionally attractive too.

clornelas - 2/18/2020, 1:27 PM
@tmp3 - idk Pattinson is a funny looking dude in my hetero dude opinion. Ultimately he is attractive, but not in a Pitt/Clooney way. Hmm, maybe I'm less hetero than I thought...

@clornelas - Lol, I just mean that Pattinson doesn't look like a fat loser which is how Gibbons drew Dreiberg.

@tmp3 - oh I get that, but with cbm's these days, you've either gotta be ripped or 100 lbs overweight. Can't have anything in between because you're either beautiful or a fat piece of shit there for comic relief.
