First off, happy birthday to Christian Bale who is celebrating his 38th birthday today. The actor just recently had an interview with
Style Magazine in which he gives a very deep and thoughtful view on the profession of acting, and on his own career. I've only included the portions that deal with Batman and his friend and fellow co-star in
The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger, but I encourage you to click the link for the full read.
Batman is a superhero pare excellence...
For me he is an anarchist and a free spirit. He knows that there are parallels between him and his enemies because life is never stable - you always have to fight for it. Keeping in mind that it may never be boring and that nobody is obliging you to behave like a superhero and to always have your muscles flexed and bulging.
You were a close friend of Heath Ledger, the actor who died of an overdose in 2008, at the age of 28. What do you seek in male friendship?
An exchange, never rivalry, and I like people who have obsessions, passions, people who do not always want to be in the limelight. Heath really was a lovely person, he loved his daughter dearly and he spent his life seeking answers. He was nothing to do with the commotion that broke out after his death. Nobody ever really is a cartoon superhero, even although superheroes are all the rage today.
As a bonus I've also included a separate interview Kate Mara (
We Are Marshall) had a couple weeks ago with ESPN while attending the ESPY's. The actress gives high praise to Christopher Nolan even though he chose Anne Hathaway instead of her to play Catwoman. She tells
ESPN,
"Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors and just to get the opportunity to test for such an iconic role as Catwoman was a honor. I couldn't talk about it for a while because the movie was so top-secret but I am excited to see how it all turns out."
Kate has also appeared in the television series,
American Horror Story and is best known for being the sister of Rooney Mara (
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Do you think she would've made a better Catwoman than Anne Hathaway?
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.
