"The Dark Knight Rises" Villain Possibility: Deacon Blackfire

Thanks to a user on IMDb who mentioned the idea of Deacon Blackfire being a villain in "The Dark Knight Rises", I have come to the conclusion Blackfire would indeed be perfect and very possible.

On IMDb a user suggested Deacon Blackfire as a good villain for Batman to contend with in the upcoming third Nolan Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises", and it actually sounds plausible. Blackfire led "The Cult" in the comics that created anarchy all across Gotham City much like Ras al Ghul and The Joker set out to do.

Here is a biography on the character courtesy of Wikipedia:

"Deacon Blackfire is the main antagonist in the four-issue miniseries, Batman: The Cult. Blackfire is a conman and cult leader who may be over 100 years old[1]. He forms an army in the sewers beneath Gotham City, largely composed of the homeless. Blackfire uses this army to begin a violent war on crime, which escalates into him taking over the entire city, resulting in it being isolated from the rest of the country. Blackfire captures and brainwashes Batman, temporarily making the Caped Crusader a member of Blackfire's cult. Batman eventually breaks his conditioning, but its aftereffects make it difficult for him to capture Blackfire. After a brutal search through the sewers, Batman confronts Blackfire, who demands that Batman kill him, making him a martyr. Batman refuses, and instead savagely beats Blackfire in front of his army. Blackfire's army turns on him and kills him."

Deacon Blackfire could be an incredible villain in the Nolanverse. I am hesitant to say this, but if Nolan can handle this character correctly, I see Blackfire being an even bigger threat then even The Joker was in "The Dark Knight".

Nolan and many involved in these films have hinted to a smaller villain being given there due in the third film, and who knows, Deacon Blackfire just might be the best villain to use at this point.

The character can continue the story arc that Ras al Ghul and The Joker left, and being that he has a cult Blackfire could top Ras and Joker's heinous acts.

Maybe Tom Hardy could play Deacon Blackfire? In a way I could see how he could work... if Blackfire was used in a film, it is likely that his look would be changed a lot. A LOT.

he won't use him only because he's too much like Ra's Al Ghul and I doubt Christopher Nolan would end his batman franchise with an unknown character. But I do like the idea, I actually would have preferred him in Batman Begins rather than Ra's Al Ghul because then we wouldnt have had to watch a whole hour of him training to become batman

if they were do use a cult plot, they should definately use the monk, seeing as he is more mysterious than deacon blackfire

@deaconblackfire -I agree with everything you said. Leave it for later and do it right. Although I think it inspired Nolan a lot, when he was doing Batman Begins. Look at the Batmobile in The Cult. It is one step down from the DKR Batmobile and one step up from the Tumbler.
@Devilhunter
The Monk, for sure. And Hugo Strange. Totally. But I think that story is a bit too supernatural for Nolan. It would work better as an animated movie.

Blackfire sounds like an interesting character, but I think maybe Black Mask or Hush will be the villain in this movie. Maybe both will be in it, but you never know with Nolan!!!

In the picture above, Blackfire looks just like Walt Simonson's Thor from the 80's. It was so close I had to google the comic just to be sure. (Bernie Wrightson did the art according to wikipedia fyi.)

Anybody else thing this too?

I know this is stupid... But Tom Hardy currently has a ponytail-like Blackfire...so maybe...or maybe it was Fury Road

@ The Deac'
I always saw The Cult as an unofficial prequel to DKR. There's a line in DKR that says he modified the Batmobile during some pretty nasty riots a few years back. I always just figured those were the riots in The Cult.
If Hardy's got a ponytail, it could be for Blackfire. Hmm. He does seem like the kind of villian Nolan would go for.
I still would place bets on Anarky and/or Hugo Strange, though.
And I might put a little money on Hush.

@deacon, in the pic he had a pink jacket (yeah,i know) and his hair was pushed back into a little ponytail...

I still think that Hardy is either Hush or Deadshot...

@duke, Lol...
I wonder how Nolan would adapt a character like Hush... Its going to be effed up if he uses flashbacks...
After watching a Guy Pearce movie, Ive now decided that he would make an awesome Black Mask...
I can imagine some1 like Daniel Day Lewis as Deacon Blackfire...

It could be the Basil Karlo version of Clayface, like many sites are reporting. However, they are reporting this because of the rumour that the female love interest will be Julie Madison. But JettD60, who runs the site Batman On Film has completely debunked the Julie Madison rumours and I trust his opinion, implicitly as he has been right on the money the whole time his site has been running. So I no longer believe that Julie Madison will be the love interest (thank [frick]) and also have no real reason to believe that the Basil Karlo Clayface will be in it, anymore. And all the other versions of Clayface are far too high-concept for a Christiphor Nolan Batman movie.
Though I do have good reason to believe that Hush will be in it.

Thats a pretty good idea of who can be the next main villain even if that character is a little unknown in Batman's mythology. I still believe either 1 or 2 of Batman's more known villains that WB/ Christopher Nolan hasnt denied yet that could be in TDKR are Hugo Strange, Catwoman, Black Mask, Dead Shot, Hush, Talia Al Ghoul, Tally Man, Deathstroke, Anarchy, Bane, Lady Shiva, and Harley Quinn.

I think no one is considering that Nolan Batman is incredibly different from Comic Batman.

As in, weaker. Not as smart. Stuff like that.

Doubt he could handle a character like this.

TheAwesome U have a point but I must disagree Nolan can pull it off it is just that it is a lil to late for that now bcuz all realism has been done now, it would not make since to do the first tow films realistically and then the third the way it is done in the comics, besides Nolans Batman is more directed toward Bob Kane's orginal creation of The Batman, besides sumthings superpowered or scientific does not look as good in live action.

BTW Black Mask would be the nxt best villain becuz characters like him, Rupert Thorne, & Hush to name a few follow the Nolan-mob criminal underground well that has been the tone of Begins & TDK & also should be the tone for The Dark Knight Rises...
