Recently, we had reports coming in that the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh was not only going to host a key scene in The Dark Knight Rises, but have the entire arena explode. A local film critic's blog reports that the Civic Arena would be blown up as part of a deal between the film’s director, Pittsburgh Film Office, Sports and Exhibition Authority and the governor. From Pittsburgh.CBSLocal.com:

“It’s a totally a bogus story,” Dawn Keezer, head of the film office, said. According to her, no one has ever talked about blowing up the arena.

“Unfortunately, some people really like to deal with rumors and innuendos and make up really great stories,” she added. “Maybe they should start writing scripts for Hollywood.”

Senator Wayne Fontana, chair of the SEA, backs up Keezer.

It would end up costing more than the entire film's budget to rebuild so of course this is bogus.

i still think the real reason they chose pitt is bc of the archetecture, and most importantly the 3 rivers running through it! perfect territory for this generation's unleashing of the BAT BOAT!!!

@alex hell yeah man! especially with him being wanted by the authorities, the roads would be crawling with cops, whipping around in a boat would be much better way of traveling without getting caught! i can just imagine them coming up with a sweet jet ski-boat hybrid, in the same styling and awesomeness of the batpod

Duhdaduh@ True!;) Somekind of boat chase in the vein of 007 The World Is Not Enough would make a [frick]ing great action scene! But hundred times more intense!

@SKOne The arena's been out of commission for about a year now, so no rebuild would have been necessary. They would have been doing the city a favor by blowing it up. I'm kinda bummed it's not happening for the movie.

correction... Nolan is an ok director, who already had some of the greatest source material ever to draw from... Batman Begins was pretty awesome, because Christian Bale didnt clearly get in an overacting war with Heath Ledger (that he never ever stood a chance of winning) and The Dark Knight wasnt without its share of problems and flaws... its not the be all to end all comic book movie the nolanites would like to believe... it had a few good scenes rounded out by great actors... but with all of those factors... im pretty sure even Bryan Singer couldnt have messed this one up

also i think that WB/DC would be doing the whole country a favor if he just leveled all of Pittsburgh... every body else with an IQ above 24 in the country refers to you as Bludhaven... i think the comparison speaks for it self...

Hmmm so the city with one of the best Medical Hospital systems in the country, and some of the highest ranking colleges in terms of education, is dumb and needs to be wiped out? Let me guess one of our sports team beat yours so now you're upset and your testosterone is fueling your hate? Get a life man.

Also there are cities with far worse crime rates, Plus if you've ever actually been to Pittsburgh and have ever actually picked up a Batman comic you'd notice Gotham is usually eerily drawn very similar.

You're pretty much an idiot BlindLemonShemp. I'm sorry that one of our sports teams touched yours in a bad place so now you have anger issues with us.

the fact that your one defense and main point is the fact that pittsburgh has sports teams that win sometimes? get a life... thats the problem with pittsburgh right there.. im not a pittsburgh sports fan but i do agree that the Penguins are a damn good team and fully cheered them on in winning the Stanley Cup against Detroit a few years ago...

plus if your other STRONG point is that pittsburgh looks like Gotham... which is coincidence... not a point of pride or even a point of interest for me... Gotham was designed to look like the hellhole it is and thats why its so iconic in its feel and architecture as a city that NEEDS someone like Batman to come in and clean up the rotting cesspool of filth and decadence that it has become...

and yes i have been to pittsburgh... my ex girlfriend and her whole family were from pittsburgh... real nice people... unfortunately they shared with me a lot of really dark tales of their firsthand pittsburgh life...

so once again Skot888... clearly mine is not an issue with your sports teams... so wanna try again, kid? go ahead... keep trying to defend the 9th gate...

Maybe you should learn to read. Skot888's first point was that Pittsburgh is one of the leading medical centers in the country. Pittsburgh has been ranked as the most livable city in the U.S. for the past 2 years, and it recently hosted the G-20 summit... This is usually not hosted by a "hellhole" by the way.

Also, Nolan is clearly not trying to make Gotham look like a hellhole. He has mainly filmed in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Chicago, and NYC

BlindLemon- Maybe your friends should move to a nicer part of town. I live in Pittsburgh, no horror stories to tell.
