Matt Damon Was Up For The Role Of Two Face in The Dark Knight!

Matt Damon has confirmed that he was once up for the role of Harvey Dent in Christopher Nolan's record-breaking blockbuster The Dark Knight.

"I couldn't — there was a scheduling thing," Damon told MTV News. "I never spoke to Chris Nolan. I'm a big Chris Nolan fan, but I never spoke to him."

However, Damon doesn't think anyone could've played it better than the actor who eventually brought Harvey Dent to life on the big screen - Aaron Eckhart.

"Look, Aaron is a great actor, so the movie didn't suffer for it. Every now and then you get one and you can't do it."

What do you think? Would this have been a wise casting decision or a worse choice than when Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast as Mr. Freeze?

Oh, well, Im sure Eckhart will be delighted to heat that "the movie didn't suffer" because the mighty Damon couldn't make it! haha. Eckahart owned that role, he was fantastic. I do like Damon too though, well, as Bourne!

I think Eckhart did an amazing job as Dent. Can't really see Damon in that role anyways.

Arnold + Mr. Freeze = Worst Villain Casting ever!

Ekhart did an amazing job in the role so I dont think losing Damon hurt the movie in any way! In fact, this is the second article I've posted recently where Damon was nearly cast as someone - the other was Kirk's dad in Star Trek!

I'm glad he didn't get it. I like Matt Damon, but he's just not right for the part.

Of course, with acting chops like this... I could be wrong.

It would have been interesting to see, I do like Damon.

The almosts of casting are always interesting to see. My favorite by far was that OJ Simpson was originally slated to play the terminator. I don't think I have to explain why that would have been funny.

Eckhart was fantastic, but Damon would have been great to see as well. I'd love to see him and Nolan collaborate.

I could see Damon as a great Hush, which coincidentally is the villain I'd like to see in batman 3.

I prefer Aaron Eckhart for the role. He was great. One of the few things right in the Dark Knight.

Hush may be a little hard to pull off under the circumstances Batman was left in at the end of Dark Knight, but maybe not. I'd much rather see HUSH than Black Mask. Really not a big fan of Black Mask. A lot of people are chirping for him to be in the next one and I really just don't get it.

He'd of been ok... But, now I don't think anyone could have been better than Eckhart!!

I love Eckhart in the part, but you never know - Damon could've pulled it off. He's a great actor, but I think he should be saved for something more appropriate.

Billy- I see some good arguments for Black Mask; primarily that he will serve as a good middle man mob boss, continue the mob/street theme, and the character fits into the Nolanverse without much tinkering. If we enjoyed the psychological depth and dynamics going on in TDK, Black Mask could arguably contribute to that element in #3 -he is a complex character.

And Keven, I have to agree with you about Eckhart's chin. I think he takes daily testosterone injections straight into the clef. Something about it bugs me too. I believe we are experiencing what is commonly known as... jealousy, lol.

Yeah, I guess I can see that. You make some very good points. As a second tier villain, he could work well. Kind of like Moroni. I just don't think he could carry a movie. I wouldn't want them wasting a bunch of screen time trying to explain his origins or anything, which is the pickle I guess.

Keven@ Eckhart does the romantic movies for the same
reason Hugh Jackman and others do! They sign a 3-
picture deal with a movie company and out of the
3 they must do at least one romantic comedy!

I think hush could work mainly because at the end of tdk Batman's the bad guy. In a Follow up you can introduce Damon a childhood friend, then have a bunch of high profile killings, all of which have the trappings of batman. The man hunt intensifies and Batman actually has to do some real detective work to clear his name. It wouldn't be a straight up adaption of the Hush arc, because it'd be hard to introduce all the other villains, but I think it could be done with mob bosses working as substitutes for batman's rogues gallery.

I think Matt Damon could be good in it but Eckhart owned the role.

I didn't think of it that way, but it actually makes the most sense. The "rogues gallery" issue was really what put me off it. There was too much happening there to squeeze it into one movie, but I like your solution. I really liked how the original arc played out though. For all the Riddler haters, I thought he shined.

Come to think of it, Damon would probably make a pretty sweet Black Mask, but that role is 100% owned by Guy Pearce ;)

Dude, Matt Damon is definitely up for the roll of Captain America. He's got two movies out this fall/winter. One is about him being this super-spy soldier and the other is him being the inspirational leader of a rugby team that inspires the whole nation. With both these movies coming out at the same time that casting announcements for Captain America are coming out, my gut tells me he really wants to wield the shield.

Has anyone else thought of this?

thwhtGuardian - 12/9/2009, 5:25 PM
Yeah, damon's my first choice for Cap. He just seems like he could stand his own in a room full of the likes of RDJ, ed norton and sam jackson.

JoshWilding - 12/9/2009, 5:37 PM
Im not sure about Damon for Cap...I think he's an excellent actor but I just dont think he's the best choice out there. Personally, I'd now prefer if they went for a lesser known (but excellent) actor like Ryan McPartlin!

oh, matt damon is a trememdous actor!!! of course as bourne, but really in all his roles...i actually just got done watching The Departed for the first time, and he was great in it! it was a great movie!
but though im sure damon wouldve pulled the role off, i think eckhart was downright perfect for dent, hands down

I think he would have been an interesting choice for Two-Face. Matt Damon always seems to have a little more going on in his characters just under the surface.

Unfortunately, Damon is an excellent actor but standing just 5'10" on a tall day, he's not right for the role of Cap. He's got the intangibles and from the Bourne movies, we know he can do fight scenes, but Cap is like 6'2". Cap is the pinnacle of human perfection.

Damon's only got part of the goods needed for the role, and that's the charisma and acting chops. He's lacking the size. Unfortunately just about everyone towers over him in every cast he joins. A shame, because like some of you, I think he's great.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 12/9/2009, 5:55 PM
Size isn't that big of an issue (hold your jokes)

They made John Rhys Davies look shorter than Viggo Mortensen, they could make Damon a couple inches taller.

Plus, in the Bourne movies, he always looked at least 6' to me.

Just give him some boot lifts or use camera angles to make him look a bit taller. It's a minor inconvenience.

as for damon being da captain, i wouldnt be against it but at the same time i think they could find a better candidate. he could def pull it off, i just can't imagine him actually going thru with it. but if he was willing to do two-face, why not cap?
josh your mcpartlin guy looks pretty good for the part, but ive never seen him act, he's good?
and i know someone's gonna shoot me for saying this but i dont think dicaprio would be too bad as cap. NOT saying i want him for the role, just saying i think he's actually a good, underrated actor and could pull it off well. maybe i just have the departed still on the mind hahahaha...

thwhtGuardian - 12/9/2009, 5:58 PM
I don't think height's a problem, RDJ is only 5'8" and although Chris Hemsworth is 6' 3" thor is historically shown to be taller than Captain America so I think at 5'10 he's the perfect height because he's bigger than Ironman but smaller than Thor.

Guardian: That's a great point actually. On the official Marvel website, it lists Thor at 6'6". Cap is 6'2", so it's a four inch difference.

Hemsworth is 6'3", and Damon is 5'10". That's a 5 inch difference, so it's pretty accurate to the height relationship between the characters.

And Iron Man in the comics is 6'1". So that is only an inch difference between him and Cap. A 2 inch difference between Damon and RDJ is actually better.

The proportions of these 3 actors are more important (IMO) than being on-the-dot accurate to the heights of the characters from the comics.

Thor is supposed to be much taller than Cap, and Hemsworth is much taller than Damon, Cap is supposed to be a little taller than Tony, which Damon is to RDJ. It fits.
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 12/9/2009, 6:17 PM
Yeah, the proportions work perfectly in my mind. I mean Norton and Jackson through it off a bit, they're both around 6 something (I think) but neither, as of yet, is slated to play a huge role so I don't think they'd throw off the dynamic of the big three.
