Did THE BATMAN Star Robert Pattinson Just Inadvertently Spoil Plans For The Sequel's Villains?

The Batman finally starts arriving in theaters tonight, but has star Robert Pattinson already spilled the beans on who his Dark Knight will battle in the planned sequel? Find out what he had to say here!

The Batman pits the World's Greatest Detective against The Riddler, but star Robert Pattinson seems to already have a pretty good idea about who he'll be facing in the planned sequel!

In an interview alongside co-stars Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and Paul Dano, Pattinson addressed the possibility of pitting Batman against The Court of Owls. "I was definitely kind of thinking Court of Owls is probably gonna be in the sequel," he said, prompting Dano to respond, "Ooo, don’t say it."

Pattinson, possibly realising he'd said too much, continued: "It definitely seems like...I mean, I am literally just guessing, I just keep saying it." Dano then jumped in to say, "Court of Owls would be dope," but sarcastically added, "Good thing it’s not in this film" before both he and Kravitz said, "Or is it?" So, is it? Well, you'll obviously have to watch The Batman to find out!

In the comic books, The Court of Owls is a secret organization embedded into the very architecture and history of Gotham City. They've been manipulating events from the shadows for centuries, and unleash assassins known as "Talons" to kill those who oppose them...including a certain Caped Crusader!

They have plenty of big screen potential, so fingers crossed Pattinson is right about them playing a role in the sequel. It would also be refreshing to see villains who have never appeared in a movie before.

The Batman arrives in theaters this evening and opens wide tomorrow, March 4.

Court of Owls and another recognizable Batman villain.

@Thing94 - I'm hoping for Court of Owls and Hush in the same movie

I saw the film last night and *SPOILER* there is a revelation about who/whom is really in control behind the scenes pulling the levers of power in Gotham. I think adding the aditional layer of the Court of Owls would sort of cheepen that. I'd rather see a different villain/s in the sequel.

@Spagett - I think the Court could still work, even in the comics they're not a very hands-on control group & very much let the city go crazy as long as their secret "control" is kept, by presenting them as allowing the people in the film to manage the levers of power as long as they didn't move against the Court.

I think both Pattinson and Reeves have expresses interest in Freeze and the Court of Owls, so I'm hoping to see both of those in a sequel and threequel respectively. Maybe with a Hush subplot across both.

Would also like to see Clayface, but with all those spin-offs I'm kinda hoping for a Mud Pack show.

@bkmeijer - I haven’t watched the movie yet so I’m just asking; would Clayface and Freeze work in his grounded universe?

@Arthorious - I haven't seen it either, so can't tell you either.

For now I just keep comparing it to the Arkham games (someone who has seen it'll probably tell me I'm wrong). They felt really grounded to me too, yet they had all sorts of fantastical elements

@Arthorious - It would honestly have to depend on their take on them. I don't think they are any allusions to meta-humans in the movie, but there are certainly elements where it wouldn't surprise me if they get there eventually. It's "grounded" but still very comicbook-y.

@bkmeijer - Well, the Court does cryogenically freeze the Talons.

@JoeInTheBox - I hear ya, I know someone stated before while it is grounded the comic book elements are very present and it could easily go the route of metas. So much so Superman could fit in this universe. I’ll find out later how true this is.

@Arthorious - this felt more Batman comic brought to live than any film before it. I actually thought I could even see Kal El in this world post Riddler. Gotham goes WORLD STAGE in the end and yes you'd have to handle It with true shock like Arrival type shit but it's totally do-able

@Arthorious - Yes, the movie is fairly grounded but it has this comic book feel to it, specially with the city with it's mix of gothic and modern architecture, the grime and deep shadows everywhere. It just feels like early days Batman where things haven't escalated yet, but easily could.

@Arthorious - I see it difficult, this is yet another very grounded take on Batman, Gotham and there was nothing here that hinted at some of the fantastical parts of the character. I watched the movie last night and for all current intents and purposes, this is another Nolan-esque take but cool in it's own right.

I don't have expectations to see Clayface, Mr. Freeze, Man-Bat, Ra's al Ghul etc.

I’ve never been the biggest outright fan of Paul Dano’s, darn good an actor as he may be. But I’m really excited to see him in this.

I wouldn't mind seeing Court of Owls and Hush for a sequels antagonists.

The movie is quite grounded, just like Nolan's trilogy was and the Court of Owls does have a supernatural element with the Talons being circus kids that they kidnapped, killed and then raised as elite zombie assassins. Not sure how they would fit in here unless Matt Reeves does some creative liberties with them aka drop that last part that I mentioned.
