There was something familiar about Robin's defaced costume in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a key speciality costumer who worked on the film, Douglas J. Stewart, has now revealed why. The burned up outfit was actually a repurposed Batsuit the team created to give fans some idea of what the Boy Wonder would have looked like in the DC Extended Universe.
"Robin, started with the cannibalized stunt bat suit," he says of the design in the Instagram post below. "Snipped, nipped, trimmed and tucked. A Robin suit was in there. Wrapped on a special fiberglass form to enhance his anatomy."
The costume seen in the 2016 film didn't feature the familiar green and yellow colour scheme, but that's because The Joker is believed to have set Dick Grayson on fire during his attack.
Aside from that, it looked like a classic Robin costume in terms of the overall design, though it's definitely a surprise to learn that it was essentially repurposed from an old Batsuit the crew had been using. It's unclear whether there are plans to reveal what happened to the young hero in Zack Snyder's Justice League, but the Clown Prince of Crime has been confirmed to appear.
