Who does Superman truly belong with - the Amazonian goddess Wonder Woman or intrepid Daily Planet reporter, Lois Lane? Before answering that question, Henry Cavill first commented on his excitement to see Gal Gadot's
Wonder Woman in
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
"Strong women are nothing new for the comic book world. I'm glad they are being represented a bit more in film and on TV. Wonder Woman has been around forever, she is an incredibly strong character. She can go toe-to-toe with Superman sometimes."
The conversation then turned to whether he thinks Wonder Woman is a better pairing for Superman than Lois Lane?
"This is a very long discussion because there are a lot of questions to be asked and answered. I mean who is better for a super-powered alien, a human or a goddess? Yes, the goddess can do all the normal things, which we would think are normal in a relationship, and not have any fear of Superman. But you also need to have that baseline of humanity, which Lois provides. And literally keeps his feet on the ground, keeps him down to earth. So that's more of a debate than an answer."
In many comic book runs and graphic novels, Batman is depicted as a paranoid loner who prepares for all possible scenarios - even one where he has to take down his fellow Justice League members. For Superman, his obvious weapon is kryptonite. But for Wonder Woman, Batman often has no weapon of choice as she has virtually no weaknesses (see Geoff Johns New 52 Justice League run). In the graphic novel, Kingdom Come, one of Batman's greatest fears was that the union between Wonder Woman and Superman would result in a child with all of their powers and without the Kryptonian weakness to kyptonite. If you go by that school of thought and share Batman's fear, you'd most likely want Superman to end up with Lois Lane.
A Superman and Lois Lane paring also has its own issues. Would they be able to even have children? Would Lois Lane be able to survive carrying a super-powered child in her womb? Would Lois even be able to survive the process of making a baby? These are all questions that have raged on in the DC Comics fandom for decades but now we'll potentially get to see how the DCEU explores these divisive Superman issues.
