BATMAN v SUPERMAN Star Henry Cavill Weighs In On So-Called Superhero Movie Fatigue

Only three major superhero movies hit the big screen this year. However, things look set to get a lot busier from 2016 onwards, and haters of the genre just won't shut up about moviegoers becoming fatigued with them. Unsurprisingly, Man From U.N.C.L.E.'s Henry Cavill disagrees...

In the following interview, Henry Cavill is asked how he feels to hear constant complains about too many superhero movies despite the fact that 2015 for example has seen a lot of different types of genres get the spotlight, including the spy one thanks to Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. As you might expect, it's an assessment the British actor doesn't agree with.

"I think it's anything which is prevalent and on top people are going to complain about," the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star says. "At the moment, the superhero genre is the most prevalent genre out there despite the fact that the spy genre is so strong this year. That's just the nature of it. It's one of those decade long genres, the superhero thing, which is going to keep on going and people will complain about it all the time, of course. The secondary genre each year will change, and this year it just so happened to be spy." Do you agree with these comments?

Honestly the fatigue has set it for quite a few people I know. I know for a fact my brother won't be seeing either of the marvel movies next year.

I think after Infinity War and JL every solo movie will look redundant. Like, we will get the epitome of epicness, why go back to small?

Sounds familiar.

@Gamecreator:

That's just the few people you know. As long as these films continue to make 9 and 10 digits, then there is no fatigue to speak of. What you are referring to, is merely individual preference. That has no bearing on the overall genre.

Now, the genre that seems to be suffering right now, is horror. There has'nt been a truly successful horror movie in years.

I don't understand what superhero fatigue is supposed to be. If your not interested in a movie don't go see. I avoided Twilight like it was the plague but I don't resent other people's interest in it. It's not like there aren't a ton of other movies that come out. Romantic comedy's, thrillers, horror, dramas. For me superhero movies are a genre unto themselves

Again with this superhero fatigue. If it happens it happens. Capitalism will fix it if it does. Until then why worry one tiny iota about it.

So as long as these movies can keep themselves fresh amongst the audience, there won't be a fatigue. Though these studios will have to tone it down a bit with the amount of movies they're making.

@Samurai36 You don't think the Insidious films (for example) are highly successful?

The best way to alleviate this so called fatigue is to not keep them being superhero/comic book movies but attack every genre that these characters can fit into. Marvel has already started. They gave us gaurdians, they gave us antman, they have wha we call superheroes in them but they're linked to a certain genre. I think this step needs to be taken even further and really take these movies serious and start making them contenders for awards like the Oscar. It can happen. These movies can lead the way in changing filmmaking altogether.

I only get "fatigue" when a bed CBM comes out. There are a munch of good ones, then a sh!t one pops out of nowhere and send me running.

But 2016 is looking PRETTY.... PRETTY .... PRETTY good.

I think the increasing importance of foreign box office will insure that we will be seeing superhero movies for years to come.
