BATMAN V SUPERMAN: Zack Snyder Explains Significance of Batman's 'Knightmare'

One of the more memorable sequences from Batman v Superman was the Dark Knight's mysterious "Knightmare", which included a seemingly apocalyptic future, ruled by a godlike Superman, along with a cryptic warning from Ezra Miller's Scarlet Speedster. In a recent podcast with Empire, Snyder eleborated on the significance of this sequence, and how it will be a pretty major plot point in the ongoing DC film universe.

"I think it's okay to look at the extended dream sequence as an impressionistic view of a possible future," he explained. "That's... in the sequence, so I'm not like spoiling anything or making up anything that you didn't see. So the connection with the Flash... part of that sequence, you can speculate if, whether or not Flash is coming from that reality or another one, but that's the fun stuff to try and figure out exactly what Flash is saying to Bruce and what he means... we know, so... we're not making it up."

As for the rather obvious hints at Darkseid, Snyder remained somewhat coy. "Oh, that giant impression in the ground? Oh yeah, that's right. I mean, maybe [Darkseid] exists out in the universe somewhere, just looking for something, something that's against life, I don't know."

How do you think this "possible future" will play into future films? Could we see something influenced by "Injustice" or "Flashpoint" down the line? Be sure to check out the full podcast below!

@MattBellissimo, I'm glad you wrote this article. Maybe it will redirect some of those trolls from the "Deadpool" article talking about "BvS" (yet again). They'd bring that movie up on a "Spongebob" post.

@SuperCat - Thanks bro. I always try to keep my BvS discussion, positive or negative, on actual BvS articles....makes me feel wrong posting it anywhere else.

@Matt Bellissimo nice job with the article. So I watched this video that another user shared, and it has me concerned about cinema in general. If the media and a loud minority have this much power in Hollywood because of sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Twitter and can destroy movies they object to, what does that mean for everyone involved.
I feel like we're in 1984, only we have become our own Big Brother.

@MattBellissimo - We live in a world now where you can't just dislike or disprove something, you must actively work to destroy it with zeal. "I don't like it and you shouldn't like it either! "

@DAGuess - That's so dumb what you're saying, RT is taking critics come from a lot of different sources, different blogs, magazine, newspapers all over the world. Those reviews are not written by RT... And then again if you're not too dumb you can read them it's not just saying 'bad" or "good" they are arguments behind it based on moviemaking criteria.

Without critics studio wouldn't make any effort in moviemaking (already the case for some), they would just throw money in the marketing of a shit with a good name and everybody would go for it.

You don't have to care about the RT score, you don't have to read reviews, but it's an instrument of information like any others and without information in a world controled by marketing, you buy shit at expensive price, you vote for liars because you listen the only source of info you hear and that's worst than 1984, it's 1940 Germany, Stalin's Russia.
