Could Dwayne "The Rock " Johnson Be Our Lex Luthor?

Why I think that Dwayne may be our next Lex, And why it actually isn't a terrible idea.

We've been getting alot of casting news as of late from both Marvel and DC, 2015 will be another great year in movie history. I remember when it was announced that Ben Affleck would play the new Batman/Bruce Wayne, and the immediate state of hostility everyone went in to. I myself wasn't as upset as most because I've seen stranger castings work out extremely well (Heath Ledger) but at the same time Ben wasn't my first pick or even in my top 10 to wear the cape and cowl.

However alot of excitement has built up on this particular site as to who was going to portray another famous billionaire and intellectual genius, Lex Luthor. I have seen endless speculation on this subject. Bryan Cranston seems to be a fan favorite, I can see it but in reality "Walter White" had many Luthor characteristics. I feel that we would just get the same character from Breaking Bad all over again, The only difference is this time we would get green crystals instead of blue ones. Mark Strong was also another fan favorite. I personally thought he was and forever will be Sinestro. I feel he embodied that character very well and would like to see him pick up the ring again without Ryan Reynolds. Denzel Washington seems to supposedly be the front runner at this point to play our criminal mastermind, personally I think he is too old. He is an incredible actor however I just cannot see him accurately portraying this iconic character.

It was Recently confirmed that the former wrestler gone actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is going to be attached to a WB/DC project this year. Speculation immediately went wild with claims from "Lobo" to "John Stewart" and even to "Parasite". To me The Rock is the perfect candidate to play Lex. Now before we all go into flame war mode and you burn me at the stake ,like so often happens here, let me go over some reasons on why I think this is our prime candidate for Lex.

Dwayne Johnson has became a big name in movies this day, he is arguably the most electrifying man in show business right now. For Lex we need someone who can be completely two faced, Someone the public can love but behind closed doors can be an absolute terror. Alot of people have said that Dwayne could not or does not portray villains. To me this is one reason why he is such a great pick. Even to us, The average movie goers, we couldn't see this guy as an evil intellectual mastermind. He has the charm and charisma to fool anyone into believing he could be your best friend. Seeing him stand toe to toe with Henry Cavill, cool calm and collected all the while knowing he has a master plan in the back ground is something that could be pulled off very easily. He has the look of a well mannered business man with many traits. He is intimidating, we can all agree that he has a very commanding presence which is something Lex must have. Just think if kryptonite comes into play and we see a powerless weak superman, Just visualizing Dwayne beating Supes within an inch of his life could become one of the greatest scenes in history, But not only does superman need to be a concern.. Think of Dwayne going up against Batman he would obviously not be a huge threat but he would pose a bigger physical threat then any other person rumored to play Lex. We don't want a Lex that is a coward. We want a Lex that is demanding, furious, and ruthless to no end to get what he wants. A Lex that isn't afraid to stand and fight when need be but also be well aware of when to cut his losses and run. I think Dwayne Johnson could be and should be our man. And we all know a Mech suit Lex is coming, Think of how awesome it could be to see Dwayne in that suit.. In closing I've put in a Great example of the evil Lex we need below.

This got a little long winded and I apologize, Hopefully it wasnt a terrible read. Always love to hear your guys thoughts so comment away..

The rock as lex would be a waste of his physique... No matter the movie, the rock dwarf everyone else on screen 99.9% of the time. He is perfect for Darkseid... Especially considering the rumor that justice league is coming right after BvS...

If Billy Zane got a nickel every time someone fan-cast him as Lex Luthor, he wouldn't be doing shitty B-movies to pay the bills.

I think Johnson would make a decent Lex, but they can do better.

The Rock is the Rock wherever he appears. GI Joe, Fast and Furious, doesnt matter, it's just the Rock.
Unless he's the Tooth Fairy. He could be the Tooth Fairy. But that's would probably be for Justice League Dark.

You can't have Lex Luthor physically bigger than Superman or Batman for that matter, batman dedicates his life to be in peak physical condition and is trained combatant yet, a billionaire business man known for his mind dwarfs both of them. I like the Rock and he has charisma but he will not be Lex.

@Pedrito

You're 100% correct.

The Rock as Lex…

LEX: Mind over muscle. Unless, of course you're me. In which case, I trump you in both.

Hey I like Dwayne Johnson as an actor and would love to see him in a comic book movie role but Lex Luther really isn't the right role for him. Nothing he has ever done shows me he could pull off Lex. I mean one of the world's greatest business, scientific, and evil minds played by Dwayne Johnson it just doesn't sit well with me. The only thing that could make sense if this does come to be what happens is they want Lex to fight Superman more then likely without his famous power armor. Possibly creating some way to give himself superpowers.

The Rock does not ooze the traits of a highly intellectual, cunning, manipulative, condescending genius. At all. He has physical muscle but not grey muscle. Whoever plays Lex needs to be able to show everything that I described in my first sentence. The Rock as Lex is a terrible idea since he is as far removed from intellectual, cunning, manipulative, condescending genius as could be.

He looks just like the animated Lex Luthor. But he is way to big. If he was Luthor Superman would be dead in a second.

At first I was ROTFL but, you may be on to something. Of course, you may just be ON something to suggest The Rock for this. It would be a different kinda way to go with Lex and it may be crazy enough to work. He has that charm that would go over with the people and seeing him working with Cavill would be pretty cool.

No. Just no. Oh, and no to Cyborg. He's too old. Cyborg should be early 20s.

He could play Lex, especially if they use the version that used kryptonite steroids and got huge to fight Superman. I think thats from Public Enemies. Either way id love for the Rock in any role in any CBM

I love The Rock he's just one of those people that you cant help but not hate him. If Dwayne where to play Lex Luthor then i would not mind. Although my choice for Lex would be Leo Di Caprio.
