Denzel Washington Addresses Reports He Was Eyed To Play Lex Luthor In BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

A very, very long time ago, Denzel Washington was among those reportedly being eyed for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Was there actually any truth to those rumours, though?

Back when Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder was looking for a Lex Luthor to take on the Man of Steel and Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, one of the names which popped up online was Denzel Washington. The actor would have been a very interesting choice to take on the role of the villain but it obviously never came to pass and Jesse Eisenberg obviously ended up being cast instead.

During a recent interview, Washington was asked if he was ever in talks to take on the role of the iconic villain and he confirmed that he was never speaking to anyone about joining the DC Films Universe.

You know, the last question I have for you, switching gears for a second, there was a huge rumor going around back awhile ago, that Warner Bros. was interested in you playing Lex Luthor in the Superman movie.

Really?

Yeah. Was there any…

I never heard that.

You never heard that?

No, Me?!

Yeah! You would’ve been great!

I never heard. Well, what happened?

I don’t know!

I never heard that. I’ve never heard until just now. Where’d you hear it?

Online [Laughs]

Oh, of course you believe everything you hear.[Laughs] No. I never I’ve never heard that until just now.

It's fair to say that Washington wouldn't be playing coy at this point, especially now that Eisenberg is the DC Films Universe's Lex Luthor and there's no sign he'll be recast any time soon (especially as we have no idea whether or not he'll actually ever take on the role of the fan-favourite villain again).

It would have been amazing to see Washington in the role, though, and you can't help but now wonder what might have been! What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the usual place.

If Jesse Eisenberg had been rumored before he was cast, as in, if he was reported to be in the running against someone like Denzel, I'm pretty sure fanboys would have been shitting on him.

Of course it didn't happen that way, and the announcement just came outta nowhere. But I'm still haunted by the Eisenberg casting thread from way back when. Seriously, under any other circumstance that would have been a shitshow, but of course that DCEU hype phase was... well, too hype.

And tbh, I'm just as baffled with the old "Ezra is perfect as Barry" threads as well.

@Kurne - Reay? I remember almost everybody was freaking about him (in a bad way) from the very beginning. Same with Ezra.

@MUTO123 - wasn't as bad as you'd imagine again, under any other circumstance.

People were making fun of that one Ezra picture, but then the apologists/victims would always swoop in with the "have you even seen him act" schtick and post random clips from random movies they pretended to have seen, to defend him and proclaim him as one of the greatest young actors of our generation. And that's just talking about here. Twitter was way worse.

Same happened with Eisenberg too, and by 2015 you'd have dared to defied his casting.

@Kurne @MUTO123 - lol ezra was highly miscasted, bro wouldve been perfect for Nightwing, like i swear theres literally no other actor that wouldve done nightwing better.

as for flash, imo i was on the idea that Sam Claflin would've been perfect since the dude is young and def has chops in leading indie movies like Me Before You.

Man i swear, after watchin this clip from Nicholas Hoult, he would've been so fkin great as an American Psycho-based Luthor. Dam, gettin flashbacks of Mad Max and he can definetely pull off the insanity behind Lex's character.

Denzel Washington would've been a great DCAU inspired Lex Luthor. I want him to be Lucius Fox in the new Batman movies.
